And by crap, I mean that no matter what time of day you walk in, the tea always tastes old and disgusting, even if they claim it's been made in the last 3 hours.

I'v NEVER had that problem when I've made tea at home, and I just plop a tea bag into a container with tap water and brew, it lasts me for 3 days before tasting ucky.

Because it's a fast food restaurant and all they serve is crap.  You really shouldn't be eating there.  Fast food places are harmful to you AND your environment.  They have no respect for anything other than the bottom line and getting there with the least amount of expenditure on their part.  Not a place to invest your money.

Kyttyn, I don't any more, not usually, because every time we order there and I ask for a sample of their ice tea, it's flat out disgusting, but why, is  what I am interested in knowing. And ti sucks that their ice tea is so god awful rotten tasting awful, because I don't drink soda's so when we go, it's either get no drink or get a soda, and again I don't drink soda's but  I want a drink when we go so I end up getting the soda.

Seriously though, yeah their bad for your budget and your health, we don't eat there very often any more, but once in a while I just want an extreem egg sausage sandwich, and don't want to cook it myself.

Maybe they let the pitcher of ice tea go stagnant which can give it that "rotten" taste you speak of. I've encountered that with a lot of restaurants; both fast food and higher end, which boast that they have "fresh brewed" iced tea. Maybe they freshly brewed it a few days prior and didn't take into account that it needs to be covered and kept in the refrigerator or it will attract moisture surface bacteria, which, while it might not necessarily harm you, WILL taste like pond scum.

I didn't notice if jack in the box does that, but I'll have to check.

Normally depending on who takes us, if I am with parents, or Daddy, we don't get a drink since we got tea and stuff at home, that's probably the best policy to adopt, full time. Cheaper that way too. and that's one less plastic cup going into the environment from me.

hahaha, that's exacty the disgusting flavor I am talking about, kind of pond scummy. Thank god the ice tea where Daddy works always tastes yummy, I'd have to seriously  consider boy cotting the place if the ice tea was disgusting. Which would be a horrible shame cause the food is awesome, and Daddy gets an employee discount when we eat there when he's off duty, and it makes a 30 dollar meal like 20 dollars or less. And then we tip the cost right back up to almost 30 lol.

Toppingfrmbottom, I can't talk about Jack in the Box, because I never worked there as a kid...but I did work for several McDonalds.

Do you really wanna know this?

I was one of the closing girls, so you know I'm telling it like it is.  It's never refrigerated...and...it's never cleaned out.  When it starts getting low, we just add the fresh stuff in with the old.  My guess is that their turnaround wasn't as fast as the tea at McD's...but at one of the McD's most people preferred soda so our tea got this funny taste after a while.

If I had ever tried to empty that huge thing out and clean it, I would have been fired for wasting good tea.

All I can say is bring your own in a thermos or snappy lid cup.  Years ago I was sick of the drinks offered, so I used to go to fast food places with a drink they didn't have (cherry soda, Welch's grape juice, A&W Rootbeer, etc.) and stared them down.  I'd tell management that I want to eat there, but if my drink (that they don't sell) bothers them, I'll find out if their competition doesn't mind.   Nobody ever insisted after that.

Except for maybe a Wendy's in Bluefield, WV.  No, I never go there to eat anymore, so they lost three customers over their "insurance" having issues with my bringing in a drink.  I used to take my son and my mother there frequently.  I loved the chili and romaine salad, but I loved my Welch's, cranberry juice cocktail, or A&W even more.

Cynthia, that's nasty, someone should tell the health boards or something lol.

That sure would explain why it's so nasty though lol.

Thanks for telling me, even if it now does make me want to second guess the desire to go there and have a drink hehehe.

I was told flat out by someone in management at Wendy's that my outside drink had to go...so I left with it.  That is the only fast food place in over 27 or so years that ever insisted after I explained things to them.

He won the battle but lost the war.

Nowadays I prefer to get the pizza slice with soda at Sams...and I don't always have to bring my own drink...they have rootbeer, mmm.  They also don't throw a fuss if I bring in some other drink or outside food.  Sometimes I'm on Atkins and mom and my son have pizza while I drink some diet soda and eat some chicken I brought with me, pickled eggs, or cheese cubes.  Most fast food places are not Atkins friendly and I enjoy eating with my family, even if we're not eating the same food.

The Health Dept. is grossly underfunded and understaffed.  It used to be that anyone working around food had to be checked for communicable diseases even if they only served soda from a fountain, scooped icecream, and handed over bags of chips.  Back then, they could catch it if someone had hepatitis or something.  Also, when I was in California, I used to call the Health Dept. when...ham in omelettes burned my mouth like jalapeno peppers, and when blueberries in IHOP pancakes were horribly fermented...the only thing that happened was someone made a note of it.  I even had a guy argue with me over what was wrong in the pancakes, the health dept. guy kept insisting that they must have been leaving out the blueberries again, and I...kept saying the batter had to be left out and batter has EGGS, whether dried and reconstitued or fresh.

As a special treat, if you're ever in WV, you should see the fast food places.  Debris from tables is picked up, but the tables are not wiped.  It's common to sit down to one and see dried out sugar rings from hours ago soda pop.

From the McDonalds in Welch, mom and I watched a girl go into a toilet and clean it, then come out with the same rag (not even a bleachy smell, lol, probably just water) and wipe down the sink area...THEN go out to the tables and used that rag to clean off all the tables.

Yeah...we've come a long way baby.  I often long for the good old days when food servers had to wear hair nets and wipe down tables with bleach water, and were actually trained to do the job right.
