Iran cancels aid ship to Gaza

Iran has cancelled sending an aid ship to the Gaza Strip which had been scheduled to set sail for the Palestinian territory on Sunday, state news agency IRNA reported.

...

He said the voyage was cancelled as Israel "had sent a letter to the United Nations saying that the presence of Iranian and Lebanese ships in the Gaza area will be considered a declaration of war on that regime and it will confront it," IRNA quoted him as saying.

Sometimes, it's better to be respected (and even feared), than loved, in order to keep peace in the world.

It's a lesson that I thought Bush understood (but then got cold feet), and one that I'm afraid that Obama hasn't a clue about.

Teddy Roosevelt, and your soft voice ... where are you these days?

Or perhaps you're clueless about what is actually going on in the red sea.

Aren't we suppposed to impress the world with our "ideas" and our fidelity to "liberty" and "equality"...?
When exactley did we morph into a country that seeks to "cow" the rest of the world into submission in the face of our military prowess?
Just asking?

Sure, mike.  I also believe that ideals are useful, and something that should be pursued.

However, being seen as both having the ability, and the will to use force when appropriate does wonders for giving backup to those ideals, especially to those people and regimes that respect nothing except power.

(Stalin: "How many divisions does the Pope have?")

In my OP, I alluded to Teddy Roosevelt's saying "Speak softly but carry a big stick.".

No, it is the Iranians being better gamesmen.

You ignore Iran telling everyone how sorry they are that the Zionist want to make a war out of Humanitarian aid.  How they are focused on helping the people of Gaza not creating a military conflict.  They are just humble humanitarians and the Zionist are evil bent on war.

Not to mention while Israel talked tough on the naval side they loosened the over land routes.  Which is the way the supplies are going.

Yeah the Truman CVBG is backing up a sole Israeli warship because Obama 'hasn't a clue about' projection of national power.

The Turks are backing off as well. Our would be Mustafa was given pause for thought by his General Staff. Who explained just how big a political problem Kurd's carrying Tavor's and Israeli Man Portable Surface to Air Missiles could be and how fast that could happen.

Further more Turkey. you Fuck with us or our Allies. Be they Jew's or aliens from outerspace and we'll cut off your spare parts and that multi billion dollar NATO style Turkish Air Force you just built, will be sitting on the ground inside of twelve months.

The question is, would the US fire on the Iranian ships, or declare war on Iran if they sent the ship?  I don't think anyone thinks that has the slightest possibility of happening.

On the other hand, Israel has said ... you bring it, it's war.  They are believed.

Sure. We sailed a CVBG through the Suez, with the Israeli ship, for no reason. The threat was explicit you just choose to ignore it because it doesn't meet your preconceptions.

We can only hope.

It would really teach the world whose in charge if that pussy Obama would send us to war with Iran.

Just like the respect we received for invading Iraq.

Goddamn, war can so much fun!

You, like many idealists, confuse what other nations say to the general public, and what they say and how they act away from the general public.

You failed to address the critical question: Is the present US administration perceived as having the willingness to use its available forces?

After all, I'm talking about political will, not only ability.

The Iranians backed down so I think the perception is clearly different from your premise.

Unfortunately Israel has no friends in the White House.
I think that'll be rectified in 2012 after a very sour economy up until then.
