I'm meeting up with a potential sub who's only 5'0". I'll likely want to make a homemade spreader bar. I've seen "bought" ones are typically 24" or longer, but then I was thinking: "That might be quite a stretch for someone so petite."

Anyone with experience to suggest a smaller starting length? I mean, I could just kick her feet apart when I meet her and crack out a tape measure, but that might take some of the fun out of it. :)

ETA: I mean for feet/ankles. If I do anything for wrists or other bits, that can come later.

Put bricks between her feet. Or better yet... a beat up trombone.

(I'm actually serious abuot the bricks... one brick inside and outside of each foot.)

Get a spreader bar that you can adjust to any size, but don't get it it too small that you can't make it longer than 4'-6'.

Hey! Don't dis the bone! ;)

Trombones have a very special purpose. They're long, hard, shiny, and, when well-lubricated and wielded by someone possessing the appropriate skills (esp. well-trained lips and tongue), they can, when slid back and forth, produce great pleasure for whoever happens to be fortunate enough to be on the receiving end.

Using myself as a guide: 24 inches should be okay. If its too much, you can always get slack by attaching a few chain lengths to each ankle. I wouldn't go any more than 28 or 30 inches for the bar itself, for someone that size. But YMMV, because of course her legs may be shorter or longer in relation to her body, than my legs are to mine.

If it were me, I wouldn't be breaking out the spreader bar on a first meet. Far from it. And anyway, its better to get her measurements before you make it, if you're concerned about having a certain fit.

What's the big hurry to get a spreader bar on her? You could just tell her to keep her legs spread for you. Don't get me wrong: I love me a spreader bar, but hey. There'll be plenty of time for that later, if you get along well to begin with. Don't put the cart before the horse.

If you're going to be using a spreader bar on the first date....nice, good for you man. But hopefully you're talking to her about it before hand negotiating or whatever. You might want to ask how flexible she is.
