Brain -> Venezuela seizes oil rigs owned by US company (6/26/2010 3:15:23 AM)

Unless Venezuela has the type of expertise to operate equipment like this, and I'm sure other sectors too, they are cutting their own throats. Philosophy is one thing, stupidity is another.

Some people think Obama is a Socialist. They obviously don't know what a Socialist is. Chavez is a Socialist. He is just not a smart one.

Venezuela seizes oil rigs owned by US company

Venezuela's government has seized control of 11 oil rigs owned by U.S. driller Helmerich & Payne, which shut them down because the state oil company was behind on payments.

Chavez should be a textbook case of how to not manage an economy.  The country was drowning in petrodollars when he took office, and oil is still liquid gold.  He has overspent and mismanaged, and is using socialism and nationalizing to obscure the fact that Venezuela is going broke under his command.

I've said it before - I agree wholeheartedly with the aims of socialism, but every time it's been implemented it has produced awful effects.  Look at Cuba - a tropical paradise with fertile soil, and in abject misery.  And the same people that SHOULD be driving its success are strongly driving Florida's economy - they left.

Some people think Obama is a Communist. Other people think Obama is a Marxist. Still other people think Obama is a Socialist. To each their own. The only thing that matters to real true Americans is that no one thinks Obama is a Capitalist.

Yup.

Chavez is not doing well.  His countries power is water dam- and there is a drought.  They have black outs for days on end.  It could even sway the next election.

They are one of the richest nations in the world in terms of oil, and they use hydro for power? And cannot use their own oil?!?!?

Steven,

I seen that on Journeyman Pics.

It also made me wonder if the drought was created to take down Chavez.

Pure capitalism does not work because you get recessions and depressions and boom times when everything goes well. I don't think socialism or communism work by either. The best economy is a mixed economy with steady growth and a little bit of everything.

FR

Chavez is the latest boogieman. I never said he was competent, well maybe I did but not more competent than his enemies.

Look for more. If he gets voted out we will get about a nickel off a gallon of gasoline. Worth it it eh ? Justifies the budget.

But before you castigate that government, let me point you to the Trading With The Enemy Act, the UCC and a few other things in our law. We do the same shit. Well we could if all these losers we got were not billionaires.

Are we better off ?

You don't want my answer to that.

Is it your position that they should switch from a renewable energy source to one which is not?

Well, if use of renewables result in blackouts, sure.  The US could achieve complete energy independence from nonrenewable energy if we accepted frequent prolonged blackouts as a regular thing.

Perhaps you might link us to the part of the constitution that validates that position.

Yet this evil son of a bitch still gives free heating oil to the poorest of u.s. citizens for free.

Cuba has the lowest patient to doctor level in the world.
Mortaity rate for children under five is lower than the u.s.
Do you think that it is possible that the embargo of cuba by the most powerful nation on the planet might have any effect on the cuban economy?
The "asswipe exiles" living in florida were the cause of cubas misery that is why they are not there anymore.
When was the last time you visited cuba?

Yes, there is a great and very purposeful changing of the definition of these words so that we can have that mixed economy. We have a MIXED economy now...and have had for 50 years.

It's most accurately called:
Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor. Heads they win...tails we lose. The 'people' are too small for anybody in power...ANYBODY in power to give a flying fuck. The capitalists...are too big to fail.

Notice how institutions economic and govt....never fail...too big to fail...the great citizenry (labor) can make me a profit or got to hell. (die or jail)

Chavez is an authoritarian dreaming of fascism using socialist rhetoric to suggest he knows better how to redistribute wealth, when like most leaders throughout the world...are just thieves. America, Russia, China, N. Korea, S. Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, UK, Venezuela, Mexico..the list goes on and on.

Oh, the citizenry and labor get fucked.

Most leaders throughout the world are exercising what most leaders throughout history have done...consolidate power, enrich themselves and their friends while in power. They violate laws, get clean away with it and further enslave and impoverish their people.

Look at the so-called irreparable harm the oil-drilling moratorium inflicted on corporate America.

Know what that so-called irreparable harm...is ? Why of course, their entitlement to a profit. Didn't you know kinkroids that the capitalist is entitled to drill oil and make profits even if it kills people and despoils the property in the case of these accidents.

When will the courts order defective airplanes back into the air ? After all, aren't the airlines equally entitled to make a profit even if a few hundred die because say a engine might fall off ?

Notice how we now allow Mexican trucks on our highways...nowhere near meeting our safety standards. Who cares if a few 100 or 1000 die in the oncoming slaughter some predict for our highways.
