Ponder another way of looking at the concept of 'Socialism' at used in the USA. Recently, Mr. Obama gave a speech to the nation from the Oval Office. It was largely about the state and confidence of BP and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. When he was finished, a group of scholars studied his speech. They found, the wording, sentence structure, and speed of the speech, was equal to that of a 10th grade educational level. It was not surprising to this group of scholars, that members of Fox News, and across the spectrum of conservative talk radio, that people did not seem to understand the speech. It was not whether one 'agreed' or 'disagreed' with Mr. Obama. Nor whether they 'support' or 'not support' Mr. Obama. So, if most conservatives were not understanding the speech, given for a 10th level educational level, what level, below that, does the speech have to be aimed at, to be understood by conservatives? Education, is a continous process. Each of us, may have understood this concept over the years. We go for additional learning, either for our profession, family, or ourselves. When we are learning, it can be a difficult concept, as we have to reorganized our brains to suceed at the task. When we are not learning, our brains start to turn previous chemical memories for new ones. In this manner, it could be argued that most conservatives (but not all), have stopped their formal education in life, and believe they have learned, 'all that is needed'. So, over time, one's educational level, begins to slip. This could be the reason why many conservatives did not understand the President's speech. Its not that they don't like him or disagree; just don't understand the concepts spoken about. So, because they didn't understand, they disagree out of ignorance, not out of principle or wisdom. Albert Einstein put it best "I don't know everything, but I do know how to find the information". In a modern era, a person that doesn't know the correct defination of 'Socialism' is an idiot. Given all the means (computers, Ipod/Droids, Libraries, etc), by which information can be studied, it is the responsibility of the person to know and understand what is being talked about. The use of crying 'Socialism' by a person, and then using the concept/word incorrectly should not be cheered on/at, but slapped up-side the head and told to study the concept. Maybe even provide a means for the person to study the information. If Socialism doesn't work, as some have stated. Why is it, this process seems to work for police organizations throughout the USA? And fire fighting units? Or dare I say it, the US Military? Socialism has its uses, but strict responsibility of power is exercised in each of those groups. Yes, there are 'screw ups' from time to time. But on norm, police officers follow the laws, rules, and conduct that we, the citizenry have come to expect. One might argue a good example of Socialism at work, but without strict responsiblity, and accountability would be none other then the Grand Old Party!
