And?  What does that have to do with what I asked?

You neither shop at Home Depot or Lowes either, correct?

I don't shop at either of those places, or Menards.

I try whenever possible to patronize smaller stores. It is not possible to "Buy American" but I can put my money in the pocket of some local dude trying to make a living.

I will not shop at Guitar Center or Sam Ash for the same reason.

I don't think there are any smaller shops with tools in them down here.  Except for Ace, and that one isn't really.  However, I do a lot of my clothes shopping at boutiques which are locally owned.  They're much prettier and much more fashionable to go to those than to some stupid mall.

I agree.  I do the best I can with what there is to work with.  It is a huge problem, I don't know where to begin to fix it.  I do make a lot of stuff, also.  But that is even more precarious for trying to find materials that didn't come from slave labor.

They don't have one in TX.  Can you order from them online?  I don't know of any place to get tools other than Lowe's or Home Depot.  I don't really need any tools right now, but I might want to get another circular saw at some point, should I find something else I'd like to cut in half and paint.  Although, next time I take on a job like that, I'm definitely gonna do it outside and not in the living room!

Master doesn't shop at Guitar Center here in Little Rock because douchebags run the place. He has gone into our local store and browsed 15-20 minutes and failed to get a "hello" or a "can I help you with something?" Upon the second time this happened, he refused to go back. Too bad for them. Unlike most of the youngens hanging out in there trying to be cool, he actally had the money to buy something expensive. Their loss So....just another reason not to patronize the dump...........luci

People have just enough "conviction" to make them feel better about themselves but let's not go crazy right?

As I said, there isn't a whole lot I can do about how and where things are made.

I try to pay attention when it is feasible. If I were wealthy I could have my clothes custom made and shit like that.

As it is, I try to point my dollars towards people as opposed to large corporations whenever possible. If it cost's me a total of 500.00 a year in the difference, I am good with that.

Sounds like a good plan.

That's all good,  .

There are a lot of people who are so busy demonizing WalMart they don't pay attention to any one else.  Walk down the aisle at Home Depot or Lowes and start trying to find stuff that wasn't on a container ship for China or somewhere else.

At the time I was remodeling bathrooms and kitchens.  We suddenly started having trouble with the copper fittings.  They wouldn't solder in,  everyone of them kept leaking.  Talking to one of the guys we know who worked there and he fessed up that the fittings were no longer made in the US.  They were now coming from China.  Something in the copper wasn't right.  There was too much of something else mixed in so they wouldn't solder correctly.

I agree with all that. But if I go to the local Ace hardware and buy the same stuff at least I am keeping my money in the neighborhood.

These are the same guys who sponsor local little league baseball teems and stuff like that.

Years ago On New years eve, the ice on my roof went over the pipe that ran the main power wires into my house breaker box.

A breaker popped and wen I opened the box it was wet. THis was at about 8:00 pm. My wife, at the time, looked up the home phone number for the guy who owned the local Ace hardware. He came down and met me at the store, sold me 10 breakers and some insulating foam. He also took a check.

Will Mr. Lowe do the same?

I'm not sure how many folks a Walmart store might employ, but it's probably in the 300 to 500 range. Lets see, 20 + stores hiring that many people when unemployment is still close to 10 %. In my mind, not a bad thing.

I'll give you that.

What if we all shopped locally.? How many of those folks would work at other stores?

I am not saying everyone should do what I do.

But I will continue to do it.

Sure Mr Lowes will,  .

Many times your also more likely to find a US made product at ACE.

I love the local Ace Hardware.  It has been there all my life, family business and when you walk in someone meets ya and says can I help you.  All kinds of kids have worked there, it is just a great place.

Not to mention, they have some of the grooviest things.  I can walk around and just look for a long time.

Im willing to pay 50 cents more for a bag of nails or such.  I  many cleaning things and other household items at Dollar General.  They might not be any better than Wally Werld, but its way smaller, prices are good, folks are friendly.

The older I am, the more I am about customer service.  I mean I am bout the grouchiest person in the world sometimes, but even I can smile and be sincere and helpful.

I am amazed yall aint had Wally Werld in Chicago.  Yall can go and be the first to submit the people of Wally Werld Chicago pics.

It is so exciting!!!!!!  You will be amazed.  Maybe not in a good way, but you will be amazed.
