The Huffington Post sucks. I hate them. But I could find nothing wrong with this article. I actually tried. What happened is dreadful. No matter what your political affilliation.

Sadly, this kind of thing is not a single occurrence.  There was a similar incident down here in TX at Lew Sterrett, I believe.  And that was not a single occurrence either.  Sad, but true.  The US prison system is inhumane.

Boo Hoo, cry me a river. If his family does sue, we will here the other side of this story.

Why would you even think to defend this in any way, shape, or form, Serv??? Seriously, what the fuck? There are no mitigating circumstances, no "other side of the story" that could possibly justify the way this man was allowed to die.

I fully support the death penalty, but explain to me how this is not a violation of the gov't being denied the authority to impose cruel and unusual punishment? Even with the government running the healthcare, this is extreme and disturbing.

They too might have a motive here..

A motive to get medical attention when necessary?

I'm just considering the source. The huffington post isn't what anyone would call an un biased paper. There are 2 sides to every story and they are giving one very biased side. I especially like the part about the witnesses. Other prisoners...They too might have a motive here..

Wow.  Tell ya what jackass, click here and pick a source that suits you.

I also think the H Post sucks. That's why I don't believe most of what is written in it. They have an agenda. Don't jump to conclusions and wait until Obama's justice department investigates this incident fully.

You refuse to look up the story from alternative sources... this means you are being willfully ignorant

Do you ever stop to check anything before you open your mouth and stick your foot in it?

This was an Associated Press story that has been picked up by major newspapers across the country including the Chicago Tribune and other media outlets like ABC News.

Oh wtf. I hope his family sues them. And I mean sues, not accepts a settlement...it's a lot easier to pay people off than it is to deal with the publicity of a lawsuit.

Stuff like this makes me kind of glad I don't live in the US anymore. Australians are much nicer people. The irony is that Australia started off with convicts and the US started out with Christians. What the fuck.

although i'm told with some affronted dignity that SA was NOT settled by convicts. at ALL.

Rich, are you really surprised?

servant is a douche. I have no idea why he is so unhappy.

domiguy -> RE: Prisoner dies from burst spleen; begged for help for 9 days (6/29/2010 7:59:41 AM)

I don't see how the family can win.

All the prison would have to do is to put me on the stand. I could have easily toughed it out.

Servant.

The pain, from a medical standpoint, is excruciating. This means the man was ignored for days, given token over the counter meds, and denied his right,.... yes.. right... to have medical attention.

Heads will roll over this.

Dollars will roll.... people will be pensioned.

Yeah, John also believes people will be held accountable. I'm not that optimistic.

This was not a state prison.
This was a federal prison.

The family will have it's lawsuit but separate from that...the focus of the federal investigation has been is to see if the man's civil rights were violated.

That of course is apart from any action the state might want to try for against the individual guards. Depraved indifference perhaps?

His sentence was for 2 yrs, 2 months btw.
