Status: offline 		"For days before he died in a federal prison, Adam Montoya pleaded with guards to be taken to a doctor, pressing a panic button in his cell over and over to summon help that never came.

An autopsy concluded that the 36-year-old inmate suffered from no fewer than three serious illnesses – cancer, hepatitis and HIV. The cancer ultimately killed him, causing his spleen to burst. Montoya bled to death internally.

But the coroner and a pathologist were more stunned by another finding: The only medication in his system was a trace of over-the-counter pain reliever.

That means Montoya, imprisoned for a passing counterfeit checks, had been given nothing to ease the excruciating pain that no doubt wracked his body for days or weeks before death.

"He shouldn't have died in agony like that," Coroner Dennis Conover said. "He had been out there long enough that he should have at least died in the hospital." ..."

Status: offline 		Now that's Change I can believe in! In an unrelated story, hospital costs went down in some hospitals, and profits in the Industry actually rose. Politicians and the Media claim victory against an ongoing Depression.

Pekin, Illinois is a bad ass place to be incarcerated.....what do you expect from a town where the school teams were officially known as the Pekin Chinks until 1980. The team mascot was a student dressed as a Chinaman wearing a coolie hat, who struck a gong when the team scored.

It's kind of a warm, touchy feely town...They really care about inmates and ethnicities in Pekin.

When I retire I plan on moving there.

Status: offline 		Oh wtf. I hope his family sues them. And I mean sues, not accepts a settlement...it's a lot easier to pay people off than it is to deal with the publicity of a lawsuit.

Stuff like this makes me kind of glad I don't live in the US anymore. Australians are much nicer people. The irony is that Australia started off with convicts and the US started out with Christians. What the fuck.

I truly hope no one you love ever suffers like that. (I really do)
It must be horrible to know your loved one went through that. No matter whether they made wrong life choices or not.

And what would you think that might be?

They just didn't have enough time to find him help?

Or is it that you believe he was not entitled to help? 

After all he was a criminal.  Lock 'em up and let them rot.

Status: offline 		I'm just considering the source. The huffington post isn't what anyone would call an un biased paper. There are 2 sides to every story and they are giving one very biased side. I especially like the part about the witnesses. Other prisoners...They too might have a motive here..
