Let republicans talk......

That`s it! [:D]

Last week is was the BP "apology",then the apology for the apology...Then the realization that cons still suck corporate dick.

Now,.......

Attack one of America`s most beloved civil rights icons,Thurgood Marshall.

"The Republican National Committee (RNC) caused a firestorm Monday after questioning Elena Kagan’s support for the judicial philosophy of the nation’s first African-American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall.

The initial charge from the RNC arrived even before Kagan stepped up to the White House lectern to accept her nomination.

The comments in question came from a 1993 tribute to Marshall that Kagan penned in the Texas Law Review. She quoted from a speech Marshall gave in 1987 in which he said the Constitution as originally conceived and drafted was “defective.”

Marshall cited in particular the definition in the original Constitution to slaves as representing three-fifths of “free Persons” when counting the nation’s population. That reference was rendered moot after the Civil War with the ratification of the 13th and 14th amendments abolishing slavery and granting full citizenship to all people born in the U.S.

Kagan also quoted Marshall as saying the Supreme Court’s mission was to “show a special solicitude for the despised and the disadvantaged.”

“Given Kagan’s opposition to allowing military recruiters access to her law school’s campus, her endorsement of the liberal agenda and her support for statements suggesting that the Constitution ‘as originally drafted and conceived,’ was ‘defective,’ you can expect Senate Republicans to respectfully raise serious and tough questions to ensure the American people can thoroughly and thoughtfully examine Kagan’s qualifications and legal philosophy before she is confirmed to a lifetime appointment,” Steele said in the statement.

The RNC document is likely just the opening salvo from GOP researchers, who have spent months examining the public records of all of Obama’s potential Supreme Court nominees. Yet an effort to associate Kagan negatively with Marshall, who is revered by liberals and African-Americans, could prove explosive.

Kagan, currently the solicitor general, is a former law clerk for Marshall."

Or let minority leader John Boenher talk:

"If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you're retired, why are we paying you at a time when we're broke?" he said to the paper in an interview.

Boehner's comments come as lawmakers in both parties, but especially Republicans, have expressed concern with the growing national debt. Boehner said in the interview that entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare will need to be reformed to address the problem."

Or call the worst financial crisis in 80 years,......an ant.

"Boehner also criticized President Obama's proposal to revamp Wall Street, which is working its way through Congress. Boehner compared the measure to "killing an ant with a nuclear weapon."

Great "strategery" republicans. The only thing worse would be lamenting the loss of the "good old days."

Like leader John Boinher did.

"They’re snuffing out the America that I grew up in," Boehner said. "Right now, we’ve got more Americans engaged in their government than at any time in our history. There’s a political rebellion brewing, and I don’t think we’ve seen anything like it since 1776."

Oh really?[:D]

When Boenher was growing up,many blacks were denied the right to vote, gays could get jail sentences for having sex, many states outlawed marraige between blacks and whites and Jonas Salk hadn`t yet developed a Polio vacine.

What is it that boner is refering to,that "they`re" snuffing out?

Louve00 -> RE: Democratic Secret Weapon For 2010 Mid-term Election (6/30/2010 4:36:55 AM)

Yup.  I saw that last night.  I work my ass off everyday, weekends included and was not pleased at all to hear John Boehner say....

House Republican Leader John Boehner said in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review out today that he would back raising the Social Security retirement age to 70 for those who will not retire for another 20 years.

The comment - along with Boehner's statement that the financial reform compromise reached last Friday creates a bill that amounts to "killing an ant with a nuclear weapon" -- has drawn the attention of Democrats eager to cast the GOP as uncaring about the problems of average Americans.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee National Press Secretary Ryan Rudominer told Hotsheet in response to the comment that the Republican "blueprint" is to privatize Social Security and Medicare

And I'd agree with the dems that the repubs are uncaring of Americans, if they would have them working well into their golden years (and my guess is have them die before they can collect so nothings paid out!) And privitizing Social Security.  I, for one, do not want to trust my money in an unstable stock market.  Not when the whole worlds going on a financial diet.

Keep talking GOP

Senate Republicans block measure to provide additional benefits to homeless veterans.
McCONNELL: Madam president, reserving the right to object and I will have to object on behalf of my colleague Sen. Coburn from Oklahoma. He has concerns about this legislation, particularly as he indicates in a letter that I’ll ask the Senate to appear on the record that it be paid for up front so that the promises that makes the Veterans are in fact kept. So madam president I object.

The thing that confounds me, is how GOP supporters can agree with this line of thinking, but then seem to forget how much in tax cuts they give away that are never paid for, or how many programs they voted for when they where in power that where never paid for, or how they never seemed concerned with paying for the WAR when they where in power, but now it seems that is all they are concerned about.

As for the tax cuts, every bit of data shows that the tax cuts did not do what the GOP states they did.  Every piece of data except those used on Fox news
Parroting Newt Gingrich’s calls for lowering the capital gains tax and other tax breaks for the rich is not much wiser. After the 2003 capital gains tax cut, growth in non-residential investment “only matched the historical norm.” Instead, this cut would overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest taxpayers.

Congressional Budget Office data show that the tax cuts have been the single largest contributor to the reemergence of substantial budget deficits in recent years.  Legislation enacted since 2001 added about $3.0 trillion to deficits between 2001 and 2007, with nearly half of this deterioration in the budget due to the tax cuts (about a third was due to increases in security spending, and about a sixth to increases in domestic spending).  Yet the President and some Congressional leaders decline to acknowledge the tax cuts’ role in the nation’s budget problems, falling back instead on the discredited nostrum that tax cuts “pay for themselves.

Of course calling a smart ass a smart ass and denigrating one of the most respected Supreme Court Justices we've had on the bench are equal.

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Democratic Secret Weapon For 2010 Mid-term Election (6/30/2010 1:49:33 PM)

Actually, Chris Matthews hit the nail on the head when he said that people vote based on the economy. If the economy is bad, they turn on the party in charge and for good reason. So far they have refused to deal with the underlying causes of a bad economy such as free trade, illegal immigration, outsourcing, and government spending.

In fact, they are attempting to make it even worse by forcing another amnesty, signing another free trade agreement with South Korea, passing back door taxes that are always passed on to the consumer, and increasing the debt by creating more government jobs, and more government programs.

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Democratic Secret Weapon For 2010 Mid-term Election (6/30/2010 1:56:03 PM)

The bottom line is this. Even the Congressional Budget Office said it would do no good to raise or lower taxes if they didn't cut spending first. So that being the case I think we can safely assume it would be wiser not to give Congress any more money from the wealthy, the middle class or from backdoor taxes that everyone will have to pay, since they have demonstrated that they can't handle the responsiblity of controlled, and constittuional spending.

I heard it described like this the other day. If someone came up to you, stuck a gun in your face, and demanded 30% of your paycheck, you would call the cops and have them arrested. So why is it any different when the government does it???

If 10% is good enough for Jesus, shouldn't it be good enough for our government???

All those good Republican notions that have done so much for your country's economy, or at least the three or four percent of the population at the top of it with most of the money.
How's the trickle down theory going for you? Any of the money from those lads reached you, rather than Thais, Germans and Swiss banks?

Tell me, Flco. When candidates you don't like win, do you know anybody who voted for them?
