Arpig -> RE: scoliosis and trampling (4/15/2006 12:17:17 PM)

I have rather severe 2-dimensional scoliosis (curvature side-to-side & front-to-back), and suffer nearly continuous back pain. One thing I used to very much like was having my daughter walk on my back, however I would be very leary of allowing anybody weighing more than 30-40 lbs do so. What I would suggest he do first is to see a chiropractor, and see what he says and if both his doctor and the chiro think its ok, then see if there isn't an oriental massage practitioner who does the Japanese "walking-on-the-back" thing (sorry, I just can't think of the term for it, I want to say shiatsu, but I know that is NOT it). That way he would be able to determine, in a very controlled environment if there is any real pain involved in being trampled. In addition, I would suggest that whoever is likely to be the trampler should look into learning a bit about it as well. Assuming the scoliosis is not to severe, and that everybody goes slow and easy to test the waters so to speak, all should be well. However, and this I cannot stress enough, the risks of forging ahead without first making very VERY certain first are more than just pain or discomfort....paralysation is a distinct possibility. So I 2nd Mons' words of caution. (as an aside to mons...I have never noticed the heightened sensitivity that you mentioned, so it may not be related to scoliosis, or it may have to do with a nerve being pinched or irritated as a result of the curvature)
