Those are not truly important news in the international sense, as our president, while holding the highest office in the republic, and being the official representative of the German people, still has no extensive powers, his direct influence is very limited, akin to the British Queen (real world version, not Pahunk style reality).

However, the way elections played out today was a huge surprise, especially for Angela Merkel and her coalition. Blame for the debacle is placed squarely at her feet, some even going so far as pronouncing it the beginning of the end for her reign.

I hope not.....I think there's a lot of fun to be had watching Cameron and Merkel...with her EU project and his insistence that Britain will not be joining the Euro and will not be relinquishing any more powers to Brussels.....was shaping up to be an interesting battle of wits between the two of them......oh well....

I was reading something about this in the Independent a couple of weeks back saying she was in a spot of trouble....due to bailing out the Greeks.....it's said she has a soft spot for tall younger men too....
