Whether spit itself is disgusting or not is a matter of perspective. If we are talking about a looghie that contains sinus drainage then there is more room to think it is gross. Still, things that are thought to be gross find their way into BDSM play for sake of SM (to create or feel discomfort with something gross), D/s (for expression of power), or worship (what is thought to be gross is not seen to be gross when it comes from a special person).

Regular spit does not seem so gross to me when it is with a person whom I find attractive. After all, there is exchange of spit when two people kiss.

I think it is more what the act of spitting represents which causes a response of repulsion. This act can represent disregard or power, which feed SM and D/s wants for different people.

I do not have much experience with spitting.
