Fuck you.

Oh my...pithy insults how adult

Want to get obnoxious about definitions now? Average has three possibilities, one of which is median. You didn't say.

Actually when one is discussing statistics, which we are,it has but one definition as does median, mean and mode.

You're pissed off because you took a wrong guess, and when you got an answer, rushed for a retort, missed it was outdated, and now your ego is so far out of joint that you're ready to spend the weekend adamantly defending what was a simple, corrected mistake.

It was your mistake that has been corrected. It also seems that is your ego that has the boo boo

That's why I'm not getting into it with you.

The fact that you are wrong has nothing to do with it I am sure.[8|]

All knowing? No. I know how to use Google. It's not difficult.

Is that how you found the median incomes for new york state and not the average income of americans?

Isn't the average american wage about $32,000 a year?

Got a source?

'Cuz even the 2007 data (from a 2006 study) is higher:

In 2007, the "real" (adjusted for inflation) median annual household income rose 1.3% to $50,233.00 according to the Census Bureau.[4] The real median earnings of men who worked full time, year-round climbed between 2006 and 2007, from $43,460 to $45,113 (about 3.6 time minimum wage in 2006 to 3.7 time minimum wage in 2007). For women, the corresponding increase was from $33,437 to $35,102 (2.8 and 2.9 times minimum wage respectively). The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) was $26,036 in 2006.[5] In 2006, there were approximately 116,011,000 households in the United States. 1.93% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $250,000.[6] 12.3% fell below the federal poverty threshold[7] and the bottom 20% earned less than $19,178.[8] The aggregate income distribution is highly concentrated towards the top, with the top 6.37% earning roughly one third of all income, and those with upper-middle incomes control a large, though declining, share of the total earned income.[3][9] Income inequality in the United States, which had decreased slowly after World War II until 1970, began to increase in the 1970s until reaching a peak in 2006. It declined a little in 2007.[10] Households in the top quintile, 77% of which had two or more income earners, had incomes exceeding $91,705. Households in the mid quintile, with a mean of approximately one income earner per household had incomes between $36,000 and $57,657. Households in the lowest quintile had incomes less than $19,178 and the majority had no income earner.[11]

Wern't you the one who said to me?
"Is Google broken on your Internet?"

Wern't you the one who said to me?

"Brush up on reading skills. Your link is from 2003/2004."

Do you really think that the average income in america has changed much in six years?
Perhaps instead of being so ego driven you were to actually read the cite I posted you might actually find yourself in agreement with me...unless you have some personal agenda which precludes that.

Musicmystery -> RE: White House pays its staff $38,796,207. (7/2/2010 1:15:23 PM)

Got a source?

You're still just pulling this number from nowhere.

Inflation alone: What cost $32,000 in 2003 would cost $37,234.41 in 2009.

As I already showed you, even the 2006 data exceeds this.

Sorry. We just make more money than that on average.

Well there is that cite I gave you that you were so unhappy with. You really need to recognize that there is a meaningful difference between median and average.
The cite I gave you is relatively intense and an understanding of the terms average, mean, median and mode is necessary.

This from your above quote from "wiki" which draws some of it's data from the cite I posted for you.

The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) was $26,036 in 2006.[5] In 2006,

You really do not seem interested in having a discussion...that is a shame because you are generally well informed and present reasoned and logical arguements.

Sigh.

Per household member, including non-working members.

It's true. Not a lot of 16 year olds bring home the bacon.

That figure was from your wiki post...you do not seem to feel that the link I posted is worth reading yet you want to disagree with what you have not even read.

Musicmystery -> RE: White House pays its staff $38,796,207. (7/2/2010 3:13:12 PM)

You are a moron.

What you posted contradicts your point.

It's true---adding non-working member to "income" averages is gonna pull them down. If you're going to include children, though, and STILL they're doing better than $26,000, then average incomes are STILL above the outdated number you dug out of a hat.

Spin this until you're dizzy. It still won't be what you want.

It would appear that this is not about average incomes but something personal you have for me...what could that be?

Musicmystery -> RE: White House pays its staff $38,796,207. (7/2/2010 3:26:16 PM)

What is it with you guys and your persecution complexes? And from dominants?

This is just going in endless circles. You have outdated info. How do I know that? Gee...must be from looking at it.

Despite more current information disproving your claim, despite that inflation alone would outdate that information in six years, reality is, your number is low..

Numbers are bitchy that way.

Fellow -> RE: White House pays its staff $38,796,207. (7/2/2010 3:29:35 PM)

Hopefully they will lead by example and the coming austerity measures are implemented in the White House first.
Also, here is one analysis that tries to estimate real median income in the US (all official government data are manipulated);

http://www.shadowstats.com/article/income-variance

Considering the falling trend, it could be somewhere between 30K and 40K today.

Actually, I would always like to see the income distribution curve along with the median or esp. with the average data.  For example, if 40 % of the population makes no money,  the median and the average numbers can still be very high. Despite decent median income, the fact that one out of six families are on food stamps makes me suspect things are not very good in the US today.

Musicmystery -> RE: White House pays its staff $38,796,207. (7/2/2010 3:47:37 PM)

I agree, the median is more instructive than the average (which is why I presented that data first). The mean is also instructive, for the reasons you lay out above.

All data, period, of course, is based on initial assumptions governing how and what should be gathered. These inevitably will affect the results.

Your data is also from 2006--and is also higher than $32,000 in all areas.

Here's the thing: per capita income in 2010--which of course includes everyone not working, all children, everyone--is $46,400.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html

So to claim average income is $32,000 is pretty pointless.
