Ex cop here, been through the wringer defending sexual expression and free speech in the courts. I'm here looking for people in the Orlando area who are laid back and easy going.

I'm the guy that owned this site,

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/28/web.photos/index.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nowthatsfuckedup.com

Looking to lurk around and see what's around here =)

Take it easy,

Chris

I'm curious about your site.
What did you allow as far as photos?
Did you encourage  and/or allow death photos?
I'm not sure from your post and the articles you submitted if this is something you did and are proud of, or something that you didn't mean to happen but got blown out of proportion.

excop32804 -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 6:22:00 PM)

I owned a large adult site, at the time the largest on the net. Over 400,000 members. Some of those members were stationed in Iraq and were unable to pay for membership. I told them if they posted images of what live was like there, I would let them in for free. I never asked for any type of pictures in particular. Some guys ended up sending pictures showing the carnage that is everyday life there. The Federal Government contacted and demanded I remove them, something they can not demand under the First Amendment, so I refused, then the legal war began. They arrested me under obscenity trying to shut the site down, they failed, they arrested me a second time because the site kept running, the Supreme Court freed me. We were going back and forth for quite some time.

I'm not very sure what to make of it. I'd have to do more research.
Regardless, welcome to cm.

Exactly what part confuses you?

xxblushesxx -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 7:07:50 PM)

Basically, (extremely basically) if you used pictures of deceased soldiers (on what ever side) as a passport to your site, and if you felt ok about displaying those photos knowing that there were loved ones somewhere that could someday see them, and be hurt by the use of their dead loved ones as a passport to a porn site, that is using others pain for your own gain/pleasure.

You say you never asked for any type of photo, and that is all well and good. So when people sent photos of dead soldiers...why not just give the people who did so access to your porn site and not publish them? You had to know that these photos were maudlin at best...at worst...well...let's just say they have the potential to be extremely  incindiary and hurtful.

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. But just because something is not illegal does not mean it's ok to do. I think the effects of  just one wife or child coming upon the photo of their loved one brutally killed (soldier though they were) is enough of a reason *not* to publish such things. Even if you can.

excop32804 -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 7:19:18 PM)

Publishing photos of war casualties goes back to World War II, and was even credited with turning public opinion on the War in Vietnam. There was lots of historical precedent way before I did it. The difference when I did it was Bush was allowing NO images to come out of Iraq without going through Government censors. He went as far at the time to banning pictures of flagged draped coffins. This type of censorship is very dangerous. Although I never asked for those types of images to be displayed, I could not in good conscious allow the government to conceal them either. As far as a family member seeing them, that was a possibility, yet I lost no sleep over whether some Taliban members mom would run into pictures of her little terrorist on my site.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 7:21:05 PM)

Well, we've both explained our positions. I don't see much coming together, but yanno, that's ok too.
As said earlier, welcome.

Ok, I did my research.

This part:

"The site allows the anonymous postings of photographs and videos purportedly taken by members of the military with their own digital cameras. In particularly gruesome images, visitors to the site try to guess what body part is displayed."

If all you were doing was trying to make sure the people who wanted free access were members of the military you would not capitalize on the suffering of others in such a manner.

Absolutely appalling, imnsho.

excop32804 -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 8:18:57 PM)

So because I did not censor it, I'm the bad guy? Maybe take issue with the poster of the image, or the person making the rude comment, but to criticize the person that chose not to censor the free expression of ideas (whether they happen to be good or bad in your opinion)? That makes no sense. Do they still have educational institutions in Kentucky!? I know Kentucky isn't world renowned for education, but shit; at least pretend.

Good for you for not censoring!  Now THAT'S fucked UP!  No, seriously, I applaud your effort to bring home the real news.

Try not to be so mean to blushie, her heart is in the right place.

Ha! Good one!
You figured me out. I am dumb because of my geographical location. That will totally take the onus of you (or ya'll for my fellow Kentuckians)

No, you're dumb because of your comments, I just blamed your location because I was trying to be nice.

I agree with the first sentence, and am appalled by the second.

But welcome.

I think that what he is saying is that he didn't tell people or ask people to play that game, they just did it.

LaserKitty -> RE: Orlando Area Looking Around (7/3/2010 10:32:49 PM)

perhaps, but that isn't how it came across to me.
