From the desk of Dan Gilbert, Cleveland Cavs owner:

http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html

quote:

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland Cavaliers

Gotta love how he just simply signed it "Dan". Its nice to see an owner get so passionate about something for once

Except for the fact the Cav's enabled Lebron.

If he is such a quiter, why did they want him to stay?

The way he left was a punk move, but it is hard to blame him for leaving a team that ould not find a way to get him better help.

Don't you agree that a league that enables a team (such as The Yankees) to reach the success they do, using the methods they employ is the problem?  You can't blame the team for playing within the allowed guidelines.  Also, about dopers, who cares?  Most of them do it, some of them get caught.

Absolutley. I hate the Yankees, I really hate Nick Swisher, but they are playing within the rules.

People forget that when George bought them they were not a good team. He made them relevent again and engineered the huge money making machine that they are today.

It's like the Cub's in the early 80's no they would draw 2-3000 people a game. Tehy took advantage of WGN being a superstation and it made them huge.

The difference is, they Yankee's are well managed. The Cubs, not so much.

Mean while, my beloved White Sox are one game behind the Tigers in the loss column!

In the great City of Chicago!

Also, I would appreciate it if you referred to them as " My beloved White Sox"

A little respect please.

Yes, but he chose that trade (for the weather, for the money, both lol).

Sure Canadians were a lil peeved but as a well respected guy and a gentleman-local he was set free (fairly) peacefully with a few boo's n hisses.

This is outrageous though, let the guy go.  B-ball, hockey, football, baseball is not a sport anymore, anyone who has been alive for more than 25 years would know that by now.  It is business--BIG BUSINESS.

ok, but how is it good buisness to take roughly $40 million less than what cleveland was offering him? He's not going to be the big star in Miami, D-Wade is and always will be. So there goes his big endorsement deals.

Fatheads (also owned by Dan Gilbert) has lowered the price of a LeBron fathead from 99.99 to 17.41 (the birth year of Benidict Arnold).

There just might be another reason why Lebron left Ohio. State taxes. I'm not sure what the state income tax rate for someone in his bracket would be, but I'm sure it is much higher than the 0 rate in Florida.

Labron's endorsement deals will not go away because he moved to Miami. Usually the bigger the market, the bigger the deals. He said himself that this was part business decision. As far as the Cavs,. If they couldn't win with him, they won't win without him..

As far as income tax goes, we're actually pretty conservative here in the state of Ohio, especially compared to the other teams that were chasing him. Also, cost of living is alot lower, not that it matters to an NBA star.

With LeBron being gone, we're gonna lose about $150 mil in the downtown cleveland economy, just cause I dont think the cavs are gonna sell out as much, if at all. Who knows though, maybe the Indians or Browns will step up and become good teams again.

I think the Browns have taken positive steps in rebuilding.  Time will tell how it works out.  Maybe Jake will bring it.  He's adorable.  (sorry Level)

Im excited about having McCoy, honestly. I really think if we use Hillis, our big FB, along with McCoy and Harrison, we could have one hell of a running game as well (triple option baby). Yes, Delhomme is a hell of a passer, but I'm not sure about our receving corps just yet.

Level. I disagree. I think what Lebron said with this move is, " I don't want to be the man"

It won't matter how many titles " they" win. Can you imagine Patrick Ewing joining the Jordan Bulls to win a title?

WIth this move Lebron has taken himself out of the "Greatest Ever" conversation. All that talent, but not enough drive or heart.

Jeff, if he really wanted out of being the man, he wouldn't have done the whole ESPN thing, he would have quietly announced it, maybe at a joint conference with Wade and Bosh. I don't think he's a bad guy, but he is still very much a kid, in some aspects

Dammit, Katy, Adorable Jake couldn't get the Panthers over the hump, he's doomed with that Browns' team. Now, McCoy, if he stays healthy, he may be another Drew Brees.
