You were good for the first ten words.

Ms Thomas is not an elected official. She is a private citizen and is doing nothing wrong. Mr. Thomas also is not an elected official. He was appointed for life, as all supreme court justices are.

Actually Justice Thomas is doing something wrong. The canon of ethics requires that a judge not have even the appearance of a financial stake in cases before him. His wife keeping her client list secret means parties in front of the court can never be sure if Thomas does have an actual conflict which brings into doubt every single ruling he makes.

Silliness.
Justice Thomas owns a home, I suppose- should he have recused himself from the Ct eminent domain case? If he has a friend that owns shares in an insurance company, is he disqualified from hearing a case involving insurance reform?
The point being that the public can never be sure. Which is why the primary responsibility, and often the only responsibility, for effecting the necessary recusal, lies with the judge himself.
Besides, if the donors are truly secret- and we have no reason beyond paranoia to suspect they are not- then Justice Thomas is as blind as Lady Justice.

You could always lead a movement to have him impeached.
Good luck, Quixote.

Neither case involves a direct conflict. One party before the SCOTUS being a client of his wife's is. And since her client list is kept from the public no one knows for sure where his conflicts lay, including his colleagues who have at least as much right as the public to know whether his arguments are based on a personal financial stake in the outcome of cases.

Allowing the client's to remain secret produces the appearance that Thomas is effectively taking bribes to affect the outcome of cases. Which undermines people's faith in the fundamental fairness of the courts and that is a very slippery slope.

Both cases involve potential future conflicts.

As for the other Justices, they have the obvious right to discuss this both publicly and privately. No one has uttered a public peep.

Talk about a manufactured controversy.....
