I'm very curious about Japanese bondage. I've highlighted some pages online and will do a little shopping soon. I've also found a potential guinea pig to try this out on.

For the ladies who are skilled in this arena, how did you learn? Any tips? It seems very rare in my area despite my proximity to Japan. I'm guessing there aren't very many experts, but surely, some people know it. How did you learn?

FInd a leather or lifestyle event to attend.. look for a class by Midori... I found a local fellow who was great a suspense rope bondage and he taught me the basics.. I also read every site I could lay my hands on and then I went back with the boy(s) who wanted to try it and under the guidance of my mentor I carefully tried things out. I keep medical scissors close to hand always. I took ever class I could and I moved slowly.

I've inquired with my local kink group. No luck. In East Asia and I guess there's no particular interest. Yet again in awe of how progressive Japan is in this regards compared to its neighbors.

If you're not in the US, are you able to travel? Shibaricon is the premier event for learning fancy, Japanese-style ropework. It takes place at the Hyatt O'hare, just outside of Chicago, IL over Memorial Day weekend (the end of May). Their site is shibaricon.com and they typically start booking in late summer/early fall.

There is also Kinky Kollege, as advertised on this site.

In addition to Midori, look for "Two Knotty Boys" - they do a great job of instructing with plenty of humor thrown-in.

Best of luck!

Seconded.  It's well worth purchasing their books.  You can also find a lot of free videos on their site at the following address:

Another rope artist worth looking to is Arisue Go.  He (too) has some wonderful books and videos.  You can find more information here:

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am next door to Japan and can travel on weekends and such, but not for extended periods.
