Was wondering if someone would be willing to create a backing track for a particular song.

Long story short - a few years ago I created my own backing track with Fruity Loops, using a MIDI file of this song for the bassline (Sublime - Badfish) It was an EP, which allowed me to goof off with improvising solos. (I actually have a recording of that, but it's a full dub, with me playing along) Unfortunately, I lost it, (the backing track) and haven't been able to find it on any one of the numerous harddrives I have =o/

I have the karaoke version of it, but it has the guitar part included (which, if I could figure out a way to remove the guitar, but leave the bass & drums, that'd be great), which isn't good for what I wanna do.

Any takers?

Thanks in advance

What you're asking can be hard to do online. Paltalk has that feature, and/or is working on it. Your best bet right now probably is to record it to an MP3 and send it out via email to certain people. Do it right and we can come up with a new, uncopyrighted version of the backup.

If you're just looking for the song just get Bearshare 5.2.5 lite and download it. If you want something original I might take a crack at it. I don't do copies.

We could possibly collaberate on this, if you go all original. I can find most anything on the guitar, which means the bass as well. On the piano it might take a bit more time.

On the reverse I have a real challenge, I have this song I wrote dubbed Dance Of The Spider. It is instrumental and seemingly destined to be a solo because the chords were mostly invented by me. Although I get my accolades playing it, it really does defy accompaniment. Even a drum beat would be difficult as well. Maybe I should upload an MP3 of it somewhere.

I perved you and you are 400 miles away. It is impractical for you to just stop by on the weekend to try to do this. There is software in the works whereby we could do it online though.

If you are talking doing it to karaoke, my buddy has the highly coveted DK set, but if the song is too new he won't have it. Problem is DK got sued out of business about ten years ago for copyright problems.

If you can sing it and at least play guitar to it, try the folks at Paltalk. They are working on it, to make it so you can be accompanied by people half way aroung the world. Obviously propogation delay is the problem here. From what I hear though, it has been done.

Seems to me if you are asking online your friends and neighbors couldn't play a kazoo at gunpoint. Doing this online is not that easy, you need a very modern PC. Just for music I use a P4 way up in the Ghz with two gigs of RAM and a SATA harddrive, and it still breaks up from time to time. But then I am not so sure the problem is on my end. I also use second tier DSL, which is actually ASDL, but if it is fast enough it is. Usually it is.

Actually it would be nice to get something like this going online. I generally write the words first, then the accompaniment. I wrote Black Snow almost a year ago and my buddy has a decent accompaniment for it on guitar. But everything he makes up has the same type of sound, and I want something different.

Gimme some time, I have some problems to deal with. Somehow the other day I mistakenly deleted about three gigs of music. I got backup but it is not full backup. Net loss maybe a gig. But I put the old HD into my media PC so people can have at it, though the real media is on the 500 gig. Believe me nobody is ever going to fuck with that thing again. I've got ΒΌ of a terabyte of media on that thing and I am not ready to lose it.

But really once I get my software issues settled there are ways to do this. Paltalk is not the only way to do this either. It could be as simple as emailing MP3s back and forth, overdubbing like Les Paul taught us.

Yes, if I survive my current turmoil, which is a diffrent topic, I would be very much interested in persuing this, online or otherwise.

(Les Paul was my Uncle's guitar teacher BTW)

Thanks for your reply.

Well, all I'm really asking/looking for is for someone that either is, or knows a bassist & drummer to record themselves covering that particular song, compress it into MP3 format, then send it to me.

I don't even know if a professional jam track exists for Badfish. I know "Santeria" has one - I used to have a Hal Leonard book that had various backing tracks: Collective Soul, Sublime, etc - a bunch of 90's bands, essentially, but the CD got damaged years ago and I don't remember the actual name of the book/CD.

I *think* this is it:

http://www.samash.com/p/Alternative%2090sGuitar%20PlayAlong%20Volume%2051%20for%20TAB%20Book%20and%20CD_-49980436

But I'm not 100% sure - it's got "Santeria" though.

I bought a backing track for "Santeria" off of this one website (forgot the name, but the guy's name is Jim Mccarty - he's a professional drummer/musician), but they don't have "Badfish".

The thing is, the guitar playing is what I DON'T want

It would probably be faster for you to load up FruityLoops or something more powerful and just redo it.  A bass/drum track is going to be mostly repeating blocked measures anyway.

I know someone who can surely do that, but he is hard to get ahold of. He is the head of a band called Mandrake and I would have to get him to set aside some of his practice time for this. The fact is he is just waiting for his claim to fame because he is at least as good as anyone you hear these daays, maybe better maybe not. Well he's not quite as good as Malmstein. Close though.

His band has what I consider a hit called Streewalker. Additionally he wrote a song and played every part of it. He wrote it, layed down the drum, then the bass, then backup guitar and the lead, and then sung it. All by overdubbing. Of course this requires equipment and his house looks like fucking NASA.

But I might be able to get him to do something because some of Mandrake's members are gone. One is dead, the bass player got in a car wreck and will not be playing anymore. They've been through a couple of singers, among the Siki Spacek from Black Death. (not sure of the spelling on that name)

But I can tell you this about music. If you got the voice and know how to use it you can make it anywhere. It is not just a matter of singing the notes proficiently, it is a matter of a pleasing tone and a few other factors, based on the intended audience of course.

The thing about music is that if you can sing you got the world by the balls, but that will not put any money in your pocket. Millions of people can play guitars, keyboards, fiddles and all kinds of shit, but the singer is what's in demand. I actually have trained my voice to some extent, but I know I will never make it big. The overall tone of my voice is not pleasing. Get what I mean ?

If you can sing and you sound good, capitalize on that. No matter what do not quit your day job, no matter how good you are.

Here's a hint ; if you can sing a song solo, with no accompaniment whatsoever and sound good, you are good. Still don't quit your day job. I got twenty people who can play backup, so does everyone I think. But if you are truly a good singer, capitalize on that. If you really can sing I could most likely put you in about four bands right now. You will be in demand.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll get on my media PC and find the song you mentioned. Right now I am on my secure PC and there are no media crap on it, like flash player or P2P or anything. This one is strictly for forums and business.

But if all you want is a karaoke version of a popular song, I can probably get it done in a few days, once I get ahold of the dude. He is worse than a rock star, never answers his phone. I have to go over there and beat on his door fighting twelve dogs and shit. Like to smack him upside the head sometimes, but he has the best weed in town :-)

I know what you mean. At least you can sing though... I can't sing for shit. I had ear surgery when I was like 10-11, and it permanently screwed up my sinuses. Any recordings of my voice sound like I have a head cold, LOL.

I have a karaoke version of the song, but it has all 3/4 parts - bass, drums & lead/rythmn guitar. The lead/rythmn guitar I don't need, and I don't know how I can go about filtering out just the guitar parts. I don't think I could - at least, not without interfering with the sounds of the other instruments.

Sounds like you have a sinus infection ? Think Johnny Cash.
