Hey Everyone,

I'm working on a iPad game right now and I was curious if there were any gamers on these 3 platforms on here that want to chat about anything; game wise or other. If you game on the iphone or ipad I especially would like to talk to you to get your insights on how you play and what you like/don't like about it and the genre's of games you play.

I just got a 360, and I'm playing an addictive came Culdcept.  Crackfiendishly addictive. Also I'm playing Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.  My friend just got a job designing games over in SF.

I actually had to look that game up I never heard of it, I used to play the ps3 version of eye of something, but man it was so boring. Fallout 3 and oblivion are two exceptional games that I really think where one of the best games made for xbox because of there openness in their world. its so vast and non linear, but huge and so expansive it makes you have to sit back and ask yourself if you really want to explore everything!!

We just bought our first PS3 a few weeks ago. Himself is playing FarCry2, Wolfenstein and KillZone2. I'm playing Valkyria Chronicles. I researched before I picked out a game because I wanted something like the old DragonWarrior or DragonQuest games and thought that was what I was getting with VC but it's quite different (no magic.. bleh). It's just okay for me but still, I'm about halfway through so I am playing it (and, well, it's the only game I have to play!) Himself like Wolfenstein the best and pretty much sticks with FPS overall. I would adore Sims3 for PS3! Now that's my kinda game along with D&D sorta stuff. :D

For platforms like the iphone or ipad, since it's designed for people "on the go", the games should be something "on the go" too.  Meaning, it shouldn't be a type of game that would require a long period of sitting for exploring, leveling, etc.

I can understand that definitely for the iPhone, but the ipad itself is designed for a more "long term" stay; I guess reading a book or the such could take hours for a session - I know that I can spend hours on my iPad, its not different then on a console, its just more local and portable - like a PSP or nintendo DS

Oblivion's awful for console, get it modded up (both graphics and gameplay) for PC, immense game. And Fallout pretty much is an oblivion mod.

What is an ipad actually used for? Serious question.

Thats an easy question. It's a electronic device used to extract $500 dollars from your wallet without you really caring. I hear it does it quit well.

I've been arguing with my wife for weeks on what kind of game I can get women to actually want to play that isnt a casual game and more along the lines of Mass Effect and Halo/Gears of War, any idea ladies?

Women just aren't as into the whole mass slaughter thing. For longer term gaming....farmville/town/whatever, for example, is going down well with women.
Less action, more social. Something like simcity, multiplayer, persistant, with a lot more diplomacy & neighbours etc. perhaps.

thats what my research has show as well, but I'm looking to see how I can combine the aspects of those games you mentioned within the context of the other type - to cater to both sex's, there must be a way to partially appease both people

Ever played Majesty? (not 2, dunno what that's like...the original)

If so...well, the idea screams. It's what I'd do if I had the resources.

I just looked it up, it does look kinda fun, exactly what my wife would play actually - but thats the problem, it still is very casual game type isnt it? So where still in the ballpark of Male Camps and Female Camps - I think I would get bored of it before my wife would - the great white buffalo, finding the game in the middle to satisfy both camps

Majesty was AWESOME, Majesty 2 is good too!

As for games that women like to play, hmm... In my experience, girls like to play either MMO's  (yuck) or plot-heavy games like Indigo Prophecy, but mostly RPG's like the FF series, Chrono Trigger, etc.

Yes, that is where I am going with my game, I am going for the lower sales vs higher sales target audience - ya gotta do what you love, and I love women, but I want them to not think its an all boys club, so if I am able to make a game that doesn't stereotype them as just bobble heads as eye candy and make them instead a relatable female lead role, then that is where I want to go
