Lebron is a business man and he did what was right for him. He can't carry the Cleveland on his shoulders forever and what most have forgotten is that he did the 1 hour special as to raise money for his charity.

Jackson's Talk on 'Slave Mentality' Gets Amens

The Rev. Jesse Jackson got an amen Monday for his remarks about the “slave master mentality” of Cleveland Cavaliers owner’s Dan Gilbert’s rant about LeBron James bolting his NBA team for the Miami Heat from an unlikely source: Radio shock jock Howard Stern.

Why Does the New Miami Heat Anger So Many?

As someone who covered basketball for four years with the upstart baller Bible Slam magazine, I’d say Jackson’s rhetoric was a little strong - hey, this is Jesse Jackson we’re talking about - but pretty on point. Why is a black man who honored his contract, played for his hometown team for seven years being reviled for doing something that he’s well within the boundaries of his contract and human right to free will to do?

Did I miss something here? Did James sign away his rights to make decisions for himself when he signed his NBA contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers? Did he do something that Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and countless other NBA stars of the past and present didn’t do? Was the fact of the matter that three black men sat down and had the now infamous “free agent summit” - again, well within their contractual rights - to determine that they wanted to play together a problem?

Iv'e got it marked. How you can compare a pro ball player ( any sport ) making 20 million a year, to a slave on a plantation is beyond me. He threatened to come to Green Bay with his shake down crew a few years ago when the Packers fired a black coach. He never showed up.

Everybody says stupid shit sooner or later and this one from Rev. Jackson is stupid. Basically the owner called Lebron a coward and less than a "king" for putting his tail between his legs and scurrying off to Miami. Nothing cool in the decision or anything that went into it. Miami tampered with him earlier in the year and all three made a pact in 2006 to go that way. Somehow is hurt elbow that was prominent in the Boston series is fine. He tossed those games straight up. He just set the NBA back many many years. His actions won't hurt the owners who will be rich no matter what. He is going to be hurting the players whom are predominantly african american. Rev. Jackson just got this one wrong.

There is actual racism in America. By calling this out the Rev has cheapend it.

He will not be hurting NBA players but it might hurt regular colored folks.

Players switch teams every year for a variety of reasons, but it is usually for a better contract. It happens in every sport. This will not hurt players. Brett Favre left the Packers for the Jets and then went to the Vikings. Others players wee not hurt by that move.

Okay. I have LeBron James, Jesse Jackson, Howard Stern, and Dan Gilbert.  Can't I have someone on this stew that is not classless and a moron?

Jesse was an idiot, Gilbert was an idiot,  and Lebron came out of this like a selfish child.  Can we not just make all of them go away?

I understand Lebron leaving because he didn't like his chances of actually seeing a championship in Cleveland.  Yet he acted like a spoiled child with the show about his choice rather than just telling the owner and team.

I understand Gilbert being upset,  but his whole tirade was over the top and lacking class for a prominent business man.

Jesse, I don't even know why he felt the need to start talking.

Guys like Jessi Jackson are getting more irrelevant every day. While a black man is president. it's kind of hard to keep saying that the white man is holding minorities back.

Brain, I know you're Canadian and all but in the U.S. if you want to make a point or argument you don't use quotes or anything else from "The Reverand" Jesse Jackson to back it up. Doing that is like an automatic "LOSE".
Same for the other "Reverands" with bad haircuts.

Jesse's an idiot(does anyone remember hymietown) is not exactly news....DYB being upset at James is not exactly news( I have deduced he is from the mistake by the lake area).....but James made his decision, and since he was unencumbered by any contractual ties from doing so there is no news there.
Gilbert's tirade following the decision has already earned him a 100,000 dollar fine from David Stern...for conduct unbecoming or something(basically he made the league look bad when he slammed LeBron)...seems assholes abound here.
By the way Gilbert labeling James a coward wasn't that far off the mark.....if LeBron had any real balls he would have taken his act to the Big Apple(Jackson's aforementiond "hymietown"...lol) and played on the big stage....the one on Broadway, the mecca of sports.... Madison Square Garden.
