I didn't know that Jews killed Jesus because I haven't read the bible, I thought the Roman's stuck him on a cross with nails.

However it's understandable because men with long hair tend to be the annoying types that people want to kill.

pahunkboy -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 5:28:01 PM)

Maybe the Iranians did too.

Arpig -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 5:40:10 PM)

As usual Beck is full of shit...Romans killed him (assuming the story in the Bible is correct).

pahunkboy -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 5:42:53 PM)

and one must ponder to what extent royal blood line played a part.

Jeffff -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 5:44:04 PM)

Glenn Becks bloodline?

I have it on good authority that his mother was a jackal and his father stank of elderberries.

LadyEllen -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 5:45:34 PM)

nah, it was "the rich, right-wing and religious" that did for Jesus, just the same as they would today if he returned and just as they actually try to do today when anyone points out their sin and hypocrisy

--at face value- Jesus was killed by the Jews.  But- anything with the word "Glen Beck' in it- suggest- carnival - Jerry Springer.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 7:34:44 PM)

If we're going to follow the Bible it was God's plan for it to happen that way.  So should we hate him as well?

Termyn8or -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 7:49:23 PM)

First of all, I needed no reminder.

However Joshua bar Joseph was a fellow Jew. For breaking Jewish law, he was killed. But since it contradicts the Bible which a few people obeyed back then, they could not kill him so therefore had the Romans or whover do it.

Back then, even though governments did exist, religious law was taken quite seriously. The struggle for power existed just fine back then, and churches did execute heretics and some others with impunity. But He was one of their own. It was against their law to kill Him. Nowadays they wouldn't give a shit and neither do I anyway. But things were different 1,988 years ago. Sorta.

Exactly. If you believe this is all a part of god's plan, then why is everybody praying for this or praying for that. You get it if god planned for you to, end of story. If you're suffering, then that's because god wanted you to. If you're prospering, taht's because god wanted you to. If you're praying, then you're doubting the almighty's all knowing-ness, and presuming that you know more than him by wishing for him to change a part of his plan. Then you're probably going to go to hell.

That's beyond weird.  I used to live in Utah and I can say that Mormons hold Jews in higher regard than they do Christians.

vincentML -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 8:20:53 PM)

In 1965, the Second Vatican Council made historic changes to church policies and theology. Among them was Nostra Aetate, Latin for "In Our Time," a document that revolutionized the Catholic Church's approach to Jews and Judaism after nearly 2000 years of pain and sorrow.

Section four of Nostra Aetate repudiates the centuries-old "deicide" charge against all Jews, stresses the religious bond shared by Jews and Catholics, reaffirms the eternal covenant between God and the People of Israel, and dismisses church interest in trying to baptize Jews.

For the first time in history Nostra Aetate called for Catholics and Jews to engage in friendly dialogue and biblical and theological discussions to better understand each other's faith. After intense debate and some strong opposition, Nostra Aetate was approved by the world's Bishops and Cardinals in Rome on October 28, 1965. Nostra Aetate also calls for the church to dialogue with other world religions.

" <SNIPPED OUT A BUNCH> Since Christians and Jews have such a common spiritual heritage, this sacred council wishes to encourage and further mutual understanding and appreciation. This can be achieved, especially, by way of biblical and theological enquiry and through friendly discussions.

Even though the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ (see Jn 19:6), neither all Jews indiscriminately at that time, nor Jews today, can be charged with the crimes committed during his passion. It is true that the church is the new people of God, yet the Jews should not be spoken of as rejected or accursed as if this followed from holy scripture. Consequently, all must take care, lest in catechizing or in preaching the word of God, they teach anything which is not in accord with the truth of the Gospel message or the spirit of Christ.

Indeed, the church reproves every form of persecution against whomsoever it may be directed. Remembering, then, its common heritage with the Jews and moved not by any political consideration, but solely by the religious motivation of Christian charity, it deplores all hatreds, persecutions, displays of antisemitism directed against the Jews at any time or from any source.

The church always held and continues to hold that Christ out of infinite love freely underwent suffering and death because of the sins of all, so that all might attain salvation. It is the duty of the church, therefore, in its preaching to proclaim the cross of Christ as the sign of God's universal love and the source of all grace." <SNIPPED OUT A BUNCH MORE>

As much as I dislike Glenn Beck I am hard pressed to find that he said anything different then what was said by Vatican II in Nostra Aetate.

Elisabella -> RE: Glenn Beck Reminds Us That Jews Killed Jesus (7/15/2010 9:38:05 PM)

He was doing so well until he got to the part about the Jews.

I like the idea of Christ Invictus, conqueror and victor, it's such a contrast from suffering Jesus painted on the cross in agony.

...but aren't Mormans supposed to be Christians?

The only logic to it- would be the Jews are the chosen people.

Which Jewish law?  Claiming to be the Messiah is not blasphemy according to Jewish theology.

And, according to the Torah, if he had been convicted of blasphemy, they would been able to kill him.  By stoning  (Leviticus 24:10-23).

Cruxifixion is not in any way a penalty used for blasphemy by the Jews at the time.  It's specifically Roman.

The only way someone can take Mark's account of this literally is if they don't know anything about the historical period in question.  And I haven't even touched on the large number of inconsistencys between the account and what we know about the workings of the Sanhedrin.

Mormons state that they are.  However, their concept of Christianity is far different than that of Christians:

1. Mormons believe that G-d has a corporal presence and is not simply a spiritual being.
2. Mormons believe that Jesus was married and had multiple wives and was a polygamist.
3. Mormons believe that the righteous shall become G-ds themselves in the afterlife.  IOW, they are polytheistic.
4. Mormons have their own books, The Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, and believe that those books are primary over the Bible in the event of conflicts.

If you are a believer then you know Gods plan had to be fulfilled. The Jews were simply geographically unfortunate.
