a high school friend of mine, who happens to NOT be caucasion, is thinking about moving to the warmer climes of the southeast.

What places would be accepting of her without dealing with  the whole racial/predjudice thing ( at least, as much as possible)?

I have suggested Nashville, Tampa, Atlanta environs, Austin, Myrtle Beach, Savannah.. but since I am of fairer pigmentation, I am not sure that I am the best barometer here..

help?

Having lived in the much more accepting NW for many years prior to moving to the Tampa Bay area, I would suggest that nowhere in the southeast is really good. That being said, Tampa is definitely better than St. Pete. I do think the warmer areas of the west would be better than the Southeast.

see,. I think St Pete would be more accepting, since St Pete is WAY more accepting of alternate lifestyles.. including bi-racial couples...

I have talked to her about northern AZ, NM, and even Southern UT and CO.

she hates snow, though...LOL

Atlanta has its good points.  I admit that.  But traffic sucks serious ass there, and there IS somewhat of a Jim Crow vibe.  unless you get outSIDE of the city itself.

Unless she's got employment squared away, I probably wouldn't recommend Atlanta.  (If she's lifestyle, kick ass town though.)  Myrtle Beach is a lovely place, but I can't say I've heard good things in regard to the concern of your original.  Anybody that I could ask who lives (or has lived) in Savannah has the same skin tone as you and I do, so I'm not sure if that helps.

Here in the D is a good place to be! Except for the economy, of course!

I also say the Miami area is great, anywhere south of Lauderdale.

It is a complicated question.   Even various towns should have their sections.  Like minded people- and  such.

I live in metro Atlanta, and I really think we are one of the most accepting areas in the south when it comes to different races.  We have so much of a historical link to the civil rights movement, it is just a part of us.  (most of us anyhow)

That said, if your friend is a yankee intent on moving down here and then bitching "That is not how we did it up north", they should just stay home.  We have met our quota on that.

Now, where can I run and hide quickly?

We Texans call Dallas D.  Personally, D can stand DearBorn as well...

Well, she's actually from California ;) I do realize that most Southerners consider that to be a yankee state, too, though.. LOL

Hawaii would be good, in a pretty location kinda way... but I understand the cost of living there is INSANE.  One of the things we are looking at is affordability.
