Hollywood does it again!

What I watched may be something from ages ago, Im a little behind when it comes to media, lol   If anyone has ever seen the Gene Simmons reality show, Family Jewels, there is an episode where Gene goes to a casting call, seeking a Dominatrix for his newest project.   He has no clue.  His name is on a comic book that is called Dominatrix, and aside from the leather and cool looking women, he has literally no idea.

He was told to pick a safe word, his was "ice cream".  Still..he has no idea why.

When confronted with a roomfull of leather bound women, all carrying floggers, several professing to being "professional"...even myself, with my lack of knowledge in BDSM, knows a safe word means stop, period.   While Gene was being flogged he must have called out "ice cream" 5 or 6 times, the professional didn't stop.

Has anyone seen this?   What were your thoughts and reactions to professionals, who didn't listen to safe words?  I know it's a reality show and not centered around BDSM, however....if the media took something I was a part of and twisted things and portrayed them incorrectly..I would not be happy.

So, I wondered if anyone saw the episode and what the general thoughts were :)

Off to my media PC for some youtube. I would love to see this. As bad as it may have been, I would like to fantasize that it was for real. It probably wasn't.

Crap.  An ignored safeword on network TV, as well as someone pushing a newbie past his limits.  Not good PR.

I caught the show. I doubt seriously that Mr. Simmons is as naive about bdsm as was portrayed in that episode.

"Has anyone seen this?   What were your thoughts and reactions to professionals, who didn't listen to safe words?"

Oh, please. My general thoughts.... I'm more concerned about someone coming in here and making a mountain out of a molehill than I am about what happen in that episode and what the media might make of it.

Yeah, Gene isn't naive about much; keep in mind, he wrote a song called "Sweet Pain" way back in 1976 or so.

Ohhhh... GENE Simmons.  I thought you had said RICHARD Simmons... [:'(]

I've got a feeling Richard isn't totally unfamiliar with being beaten [:)]

Lighten up DomImus.

There was no mountain, in fact, there was no mole hill.   Just a simple question to find out if anyone felt BDSM was portrayed badly in the media.

As I stated...if something I was involved with was painted in a bad light, it bothers me.  So, this doesn't bother you, okie dokie.   :)

On the matter of Gene being ignorant to BDSM...I think he is as educated as the media allows, mostly that there is leather involved.   The man is into money, he slaps his name on many different products, that doesn't make him educated on what goes on within BDSM.

I saw that episode.  I remember thinking he is seriously yellin ice cream and trying to get away from her but she isn't stopping.

Hadn't he just got out of the hospital or something? It has been so long I am not sure if my memory is right on that or not.

I thought it was bad of her to not stop, as he seemed sincere in screaming ice cream, but then it is television so who knows.

DesFIP -> RE: Lights, Camera, Action! (7/16/2010 9:56:28 AM)

It's hard to know if she ignored the safe word for no reason or they did it deliberately because him screaming ice cream ice cream would give better ratings. Personally I think it was the latter. They did it this way in hopes of getting more viewers and more money.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Lights, Camera, Action! (7/16/2010 10:08:56 AM)

I didn't watch it. I'm about as interested in watching Gene Simmons as I was about watching Ozzy's show. I prefer to listen to their music without the current mental image as a reminder that I too am getting old!

AAkasha -> RE: Lights, Camera, Action! (7/16/2010 8:15:06 PM)

It is all staged. I am sure they realized it's not interesting if he says a safeword and the scene is over. They know how many minutes they need, and they all agree up front what to do.  It's scripted for the most part.
