Status: offline 		What mindless books are you reading this summer?
I read Pride and Prejudice and Twilight and now am in the middle of Cold Mountain, Harry Potter (5th one), Jane Eyre and The Lord of the Rings.
I tend to read non thinking, purely for enjoyment books over the summer and I tend to read three or four different books at once.

Status: offline 		I just picked up Sh*t My Dad Says. The tweets are good for the occassional laugh, hopefully the book is too.

In Barnes & Noble, I noticed Janet Evanovich has released Sizzling Sixteen and realized twelve was the last I read, so those are up next. (Great series for anyone unfamiliar - funny and light reading)

Haven't been able to focus past a few pages in the past several months, so there is a growing stack on the bookshelf - each of which I'm in the middle of chapter 1 on.

ETA: I've considered Jane Eyre one of my 2 favorites since reading it in HS, but realize now I don't remember much of the story. Should read that one again soon.

And for fun when my brain is numb......The Quotable Bitch: Women Who Are Not Afraid to Tell it like it Really Is.

I have a couple more of the Dalai Lama's books lined up as well as one on writing.

I've started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest several times, but it doesn't have the same feel as the two preceding it.

Status: offline 		I love short stories, so I am cruising through the Mammoth Annuals, and I am bringing Narcissus in Chains to Florida. I read a Laurell Hamilton book ages ago, just hit the first one, and am just gonna see if I can be entertained by the mainstream version of what kinky sex is!

The library: LOVE IT!!

I just finished two by Nelson DeMille: Lion's Game, and The Lion, and am a quarter of the way through John Sandford's latest Lucas Davenport novel; I'll likely go to the library tomorrow to restock.

Status: offline 		Reading "Times to Remember" Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, then "The Man Behind the Mask," (about Richard Nixon) and "Energy Medicine for Women."  I have a summer Science Fiction book list I want to get started on as well.

edited to add I missed the part of the OP's post that said "mindless"...Does "The National Enquirer" count?  mind -candy ...lol...blah-blah-blah

Status: offline 		This summer's theme centers on femininity and domesticity. I think both will be year long subjects I'm going to explore in greater depth. I'll add the occasional book on writing for informational purposes, but I expended a lot of energy on that one already. I read very fast and typically complete several books in one week. On tap at present is:

Inside the Victorian Home: A Portrait of Domestic Life in Victorian England by Judith Flanders
What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life by Kim Johnson Gross
Short White Coat: Lessons from Patients on Becoming a Doctor by James A. Feinstein
The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists

The latter should be entertaining. The last time I read of book of that nature I recognized a lot of men I'd considered or gotten involved with. I expect to see a similar pattern.

Status: offline 		I will be reading National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States, Adaptive Significance of Calanoid Copepod Pigmentation, Metabolic Stimulation by Light in Pigmented Freshwater Invertebrates, and some others along those lines.

Status: offline 		I just finished a nice light book,"Homers Odyssey" by Gwen Cooper, about her adoption of a blind kitten. Well written, with a interesting depiction of what it was like to live in Manhattan on 9/11 .

The newest Dave Robicheaux chestnut by James Lee Burke "The Glass Rainbow" and great suspense novels by Linwood Barclay and Andrew Vachss (going back to read all the "Burke" series). Today I got Johnny Winter's bio "Raisin' Cain" and it looks delightful. So many books, so little time to read 'em all

Status: offline 		Currently rereading Christine Feehan's Dark series; finishing up Dark Legend and will shortly start Dark Guardian. Chains of Ice, the newest in Christina Dodd's Chosen Ones series will follow the rereading of the Dark series.

I read very fast, so it takes a lot of books to keep me entertained for very long. I'm awaiting the release of a few new ones by favorite authors and have 3 or 4 currently newly released to get asap as well.

  • The Overton Window, by Glenn Beck (my dad got it as a Father's Day gift, i've been wanting to read it)

Or i have a few unfinished romance novels to finish yet.  Think it'll boil down to me reading one of them, actually.  Too ADD this summer, bleh.

Memoirs....soldiers.....conscientious objectors.....munitions workers (largely women).....media influence.....poems.....films....trying to trace my Scottish Great Grandfather who was killed at Ypres....my Grandmother went over to Belguim to find his grave and couldn't find him.

I tend to read a few comedy type books for a bit of balance.......was reading Bill Hicks' life story....but to be honest it was poor....and have been reading a couple of other books by Rich Hall....another American comedian based in England......that bloke is definitely worth a read.......hilarious....
