I am hoping this last effort works until the relief wells are finished. "Guarded optimism" is the operative phrase right now.

Pressure rising in cap at BP's undersea well, a positive sign
By the CNN Wire Staff
July 16, 2010 3:42 p.m. EDT

"New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) -- The verdict Friday: so far, so good. But don't break out the champagne just yet.

Cautious optimism blossomed after BP stopped the oil gushing from its ruptured undersea well, especially when a top company official reported Friday that pressure within the new well cap was steadily rising.
President Barack Obama, who expects to return to the Gulf Coast in the next few weeks, tempered the good news in remarks Friday morning. He said the new capping stack BP lowered in place this week is successfully containing the oil, but definitive answers won't be known until the testing and data evaluation are complete.

"I think it's important that we don't get ahead of ourselves here," he said. "You know, one of the problems with having this camera down there is that when the oil stops gushing, everybody feels like we're done, and we're not.

"We won't be done until we actually know that we killed the well and have a permanent solution in place," he said.

Pressure was up to 6,700 pounds per square inch inside the well's capping stack, said BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells. The company is looking for a pressure above 8,000, which would indicate that no oil was being forced out through a fresh leak and that the well was undamaged and able to withstand the pressure of the cap."

Obama did not really go on vacation in Maine. He is sitting on the floor of the Gulf with his finger in the pipe. Not a few on here would love to see it fail.

Just one person to fix that mess, aye? Just saw that this had already been posted about earlier.

I'm starting to get concerned about that pressure reading. 6700 psi is a lot lower than what they were expecting. This may mean that the borehole is, indeed, leaking.

Quiet in this thread........

....................... or is it a past thread might have exhausted the feeling, but an observation none the less. Could it be good news is not the news many like to hear.

In which case what does that say about the regular posters who have been most vociferous in the past in the condemnation of the actions in the Gulf of Mexico.

Honestly, it does seem if many are watching and waiting and perhaps silently hoping the present attempt will fail so they can again  burst forth with a tirade of yet  more bile and disgust of those genuinely trying to solve a problem caused by man's (gr)need and lust for death from the past.

I wonder though, if this attempt should fail, will the vociferous be back to haunt where they are silent now.

You "think" too much.

Oil's well that ends well. But this isn't over, and the news is mixed.

And when it's over, only this part of it will be over.

What's to add?

The reason WHY it is working is to boost BP stock price above $37.    Much of what we now see is soley to effect the stock price.

Hey Panda, did you hear about the discussion on a "bullhead kill" instead of killing it through the relief well?  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/us/18spill.html?_r=1&hp
