In a state as big as Texas, California, or even North Carolina, why do dom/mes and subs alike just list "Texas" or "California" or "North Carolina" as their location?  I would think that if it takes 4 to 10 hours to drive the length/breadth of the state, some type of regional or city prefix would make connecting much easier [especially when the profile is sparse]

Gauge -> RE: Location, location, location (4/16/2006 7:10:53 PM)

Some people use their real names on here. Some give out other types of information about themselves. If you have a city location within a state and a first name people can be tracked down putting all the information together. It may be a safety issue.

Arpig -> RE: Location, location, location (4/16/2006 7:12:36 PM)

I know what you mean....how do you think I feel about those who list themselves as in Ontario: 415,000 square miles, and 35-40 hours non-stop driving to cross east to west!!!!

MochaMistress -> RE: Location, location, location (4/16/2006 7:19:06 PM)

Yes I agree a safety issue and privacy issue. My lifestyle need not be the topic of discussion around the office.

We just like to keep you guessing.  Besides, it gives you something to ask when you email us.

Best,

ROFL I've seen some listed as being in CANADA. Wow, that makes them local to me, cause I live in Canada too, right???

I'm changing mine to read that I'm from North America.

mnottertail -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 4:25:26 AM)

I am gonna change mine to western hemisphere, it seems just as good as saying Richville, MN...Ain't alotta people wanna come here anyway. And both are equally obtuse.

MsIncognito -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 5:39:10 AM)

For me it's just another way to discourage Dominants who are seeking from contacting me. Even though my profile says "just checking out the forums" and lists only "Ontario" as my location  they still contact me. Maybe I should put "Western Hemisphere" to further discourage them [;)]

Arpig -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 5:56:12 AM)

Good point...however I I think the question was sort of directed at those who are looking to be contacted

philosophy -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 7:02:49 AM)

i live on earth, just leave a message with Stan in the kalihari, or Fred at the empire state if i'm not in............

MsIncognito -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 7:08:49 AM)

The problem with that being that many on here who are looking to be contacted automatically assume that everyone else is here for the same reason, too. We've also seen plenty of posts from people who've made it clear that those who aren't looking shouldn't be here wasting the precious time of those who are or that they should disable their profiles. I was simply pointing out that not everyone is here for the same reason and we shouldn't expect others to alter their profiles to make life easier for us. That's all.

All kidding aside, if you ARE actively searching I could see how this could be an issue. Then again, even if you are searching, myself having made successful connections much further way than what you are talking about, maybe it's just a mindset that you need to disregard. 10 hours away for something you truely want may not be that big of a deal. I can understand many folks wanting to be rather vague about their location, particularly with identy theft and stalkings being so prevalent. I guess my suggestion would just be to fire away with questions and see if you are within visiting distance from the start. I would suggest not being to bold about this right out of the box however, as attempting to get details such as this before you even have friendly conversation could be misconstrued. If you do make a connection and it seems a long way away...hmm, well you can either be satisfied with trying to nurture the relationship long distance or gas up the car and take a couple days of vacation.

FangsNfeet -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 7:43:55 AM)

Why do people put Dallas Fortworth area and Houston Metroplex?

Either way, some people like to play it safe when it's a known fact that dangerous pervs are own the prowl trying to figure out where people live. For people who give just a state or a large city area, just send them a message telling your wear abouts and ask for an approximate distance time it would take to meet each other in a public facility.

mnottertail -> RE: Location, location, location (4/17/2006 7:48:16 AM)

Well, if I just come right out and say I am a dangerous perv up front (I am), do you think that the slave would be up front and tell me where they lived?  It would make everything easier, Ja?

Even if you put
"Don't contact me I will not reply."

you will still get mail. Some just take that as a challenge. That it doesn't apply to them and, unfortunately, you have to keep deleting them. Whatever you do don't reply.

Any one who uses their real name is more than one card short of a full deck. Especially on a site like Collarme. NEVER use your real name on dating sites.

IF you do want to be contacted by people within a reasonable distance then put city and state. This will cut down, not illiminate,  the mail you will ignore and delete.

speaking of ignoring mail: Why do submissive women ignore mail from a Dominant when he writes more than a one liner, is respectful and obviously has read your profile?

A simple  "thank you but I'm not interested" IS the respectful thing to do.

NO!
NoNoNoNoNoNo pete, you will NOT hijack this thread, you will NOT make it another email whine.....either add to any one of the several thousand already in existance or start your own..but do NOT hijack any thread that way...email behaviour is far to important an issue for that, it deserves to be dealt with in a thread all its own, which is why there are so damned many of them, don't you know.
