Has anyone else noticed how many 18 yr olds are now on this site? And what is the appropriate age to meet? I know of one who based on her profile was 19 and seeing a Dom who was in his late 30's early 40's. Old enough to be her father, but dumb enough not to get involved. Where is the ethical line

HeavansKeeper -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 8:24:09 PM)

1/2 your age +7

juliaoceania -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 8:28:13 PM)

This is not a new observation...

I would say that if they are adults, they are old enough, this does not mean it is necessarily "advisable" in some cases... but the same is true of vanilla young people

BoiJen -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 8:31:43 PM)

State by state, the age of consent varies.

However, according to the federal government of the United States, it's 18.

Otherwise it's really none of your damn business now is it, OP?

Because what you're saying is based upon your own impressions of 18 year olds, 19 year olds and 20 somethings. Which likely came from who you were at that age and your friends of that age and not the experiences or personal discovery of the person(s) in question.

Have fun with your age bias thread...it's been done several times already.

I think after 18 as long as there is a Pulse it's your decision .

Do what Makes you happy...... just be willing to live with the repercussions of the decision you made.

Op, your view is pretty indicative of your thought process on this.

If I thought you were sick because of how you felt would it bother you? Would it be any of my business?

Why is someone elses choice any of yours?

tediberri,

I think you'll find varying opinions on the subject. I couldn't fathom dipping that low, but then again I have a daughter that age and have given her specific instructions about this subject. It would be a little hypocritical of me to defy them. The gentleman I'm conversing with is nearing thirty and that's probably a larger gap than I'd normally prefer. But I couldn't imagine myself going lower and I've never been one to scale up either. At best I've had a three year difference in my partnerships and found that's worked out well. It would take a remarkable person to make me challenge that in a large measure and it's rarely encountered. Much of this boils down to personal ethics and the preferences each adhere to in their relationships. For some age is not a consideration, for others it is a deal breaker.

You know when I was 19, I dated someone much older than me.  Maybe four or five years younger than my mother.  I am 23 years old now.  After all of this time, we recently had the opportunity to catch up.  It wasn't until I got a chance to see and talk to him again that I realized how wildly inappropriate it was to have dated him at age 19.  Now, I understand why my mother was so adamantly opposed to it.

So I do understand your point, but the decision becomes yours at 18 regardless of whether you are ready or the choices you make are wise.  I still prefer older men but am probably more 'ready' for something like that now.

As far as the relationships that involve such age differences....I don't worry about other people's business unless their business matters a lot to me.  CM doesn't fall into that category.  Live and let live.

perhaps the prettiest eyes on CM....Howdy june, what's shaking? I am old and gross.

I have dated women much younger and some not so much.

Where do you draw the line? When you hear people behind you whispering, "that's creepy."

jujubeeMB -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 9:33:04 PM)

I'm going to risk sounding closed-minded and say that anyone over the age of 50 should not be having sex with anyone under the age of 20. I know. It's none of my business, and it's completely up to the people involved. But eh, I'm saying it anyway [;)]

Hey, I agree with you, but unless they ask me for advice, it isn't my business... the second they start broadcasting it, then I am saying something[:D]

It is inappropriate to be the age police on CM is my point

domiguy -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 9:39:22 PM)

I am the age police. Who needs a cavity search?

DarkSteven -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 9:43:51 PM)

There are still some Civil War widows alive.  Men who had fought in the Civil War as teenagers, would get married in their eighties to teen girls, back in the 1920s-1930s.  The girls got a stable home life, and the men got someone to take care of them.  Some of these women are still alive and collecting pensions from their husbands' Civil War service.

If the nillas do it, who are we to object?

You're totally right. This is just the age police in my head, who mostly keep to themselves and mind their own business, except when someone starts a thread asking for opinions and they get excited [:)]

Domi!  I like 'em old and gross, so watch out. [;)]  I've been out and about turning into a grown up.  I cannot stay away from CM forever.  What have you been up to?  You were a super buff rap legend.  Now you're sporting a crown of thorns.

People whispering, 'that's creepy' might turn me on a bit.  I do have a line.  I don't remember where it's drawn exactly. [;)]

Oh noes.  Violation of my limits.

IronBear -> RE: Age appropriate (7/21/2010 10:00:13 PM)

I'd take the legal age into account, and yet where there is a difference between the legal age to become involved in sex can be different to the age at which a person is legally considered to be an adult. That is the age I'd set as the minimum which appears top be about 18. As an example and any Victorians (from the state of Victoria in Australia) can correct me if the laws have changed, the legal age for sex is 16 but a male over 21 is illegal to have sex with a 16 year old female. A 25 year old man is illegal to have sex with a woman under 21, yet at 18 you are considered to be an adult with full rights including to vote. Some laws are archaic and obviously need updating like the law in Victoria when I was younger that when you drive an auto-mobile, you are required to have a man walking with a red flag in front of you..

I have read often enough that many girls will not have a relationship with a bloke the same age as their fathers. It is largely a matter of what seems right to you. For example you may have many friends of a younger age and mix with that age group regularly so it will possibly be good for you to seek a playmate or partner in that age group. One negative aspect you may find is in some societies or places the general populace may ostracise you there is many years difference between you with the male being older. My lady and I are 30 years apart so I do speak from experience.
