Solution: Vote-out all the republican incumbents, no more time wasting republican roadblocks.

Congress Ranks Last in Confidence in Institutions
Fifty percent "very little"/"no" confidence in Congress reading is record high

Eleven percent of Americans say they have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009 and a percentage point lower than the previous low for Congress , recorded in 2008.

Well if the ranking is low now when the majority is democrats, I am not sure how you think getting rid of the repubs is going to help. But I know how much you hate the 3 R's so keep dreaming.

Actually, Congress doesn't rank last, it was just last on the list.  Going down that list, we can see who ranks last.

*editted to add...its an interesting poll though.

If you go back and read what he actually wrote you will see that he did not say to get rid of all the Republicans...he suggested voting out all the Republican incumbants. Big difference. I think most people would probably admit that congress needs both parties in order to keep things somewhat in balance. The problem is that the incumbant Republicans are using fillabuster and other stalling techniques far more right now than at any time in history, and therefore nothing is being accomplished, which is at least part of why congress has such low confidence numbers. Also, they seem unwilling to even attempt to work in a bipartisan manner. Instead they refuse to contribute, then just sit and whine about what the Democrats come up with.

In all honesty and fairness there are some Democrat incumbants that need to go as well. Neither side is totally blameless. I personally believe that both parties are more concerned about party issues rather than what is good for America.

First, it is not true that filibuster atteempts are being used "far more than any time in history". There are more cloture motions than recent history, that is true, but the number of those that are repetitive cloture motions on the same bill. 2 cloture votes on 1 bill is still 1 filibuster attempt. If you look at the number of BILLS with filibuster attempts, this Congress is only slightly higher than GWB's first Congress. And GWB's first Congress was a time of great national unity due to 9/11. That the current Congress is somewhat higher isnt the least bit surprising.

Second, there are two sides to every filibuster. The number of filibuster attempts can be indicative of the unwillingness of the majority party to compromise, not just the a penchant to "say no" by the minority party. The frequent refusal of Reid and Pelosi to entertain GOP amendments, and the number of times the GOP has been totally shut out of conferences is clear indication that the administration that was supposed to "reach across the aisles" is incapable of doing that, and that is hurting their poll numbers as much as anything. When you ram unpopular bills through without compromise you get filibuster attempts and unpopularity.

Without a doubt.

Yes there is, but I seriously doubt he meant replacing them with more republicans. This is brain we are talking about here.

I think that if the poll was conducted to see why people feel such little faith in congress there would be a large percentage that think it is a behemoth of an institution that allows arcane rules that are not even constitutionally derived to interfere with the running of this country... stalemate is stagnating progress, and obstruction is causing the congress to have an image problem..

Unfortunately, Americans will blame the party in power instead of those holding up the process....

If "large percentage" means less than 10% you might be on to something! And see above about stalemates. It takes two to tangle.

Um, it does not take two to tango, it takes one to take a shit in the middle of the room...

You are either being intellectually dishonest, or you are blinded by partisanship. I am not a democrat, I do not approve of the job that democrats are doing because they should be mowing the republican obstructionists over by changing senate rules. Their desire to seem "moderate" and "conciliatory" are a buncha crap... they shouldn't compromise one fucking thing. And when they lose seats in the next election they will have themselves to thank for it.

I am not a democrat,

Where did I say you are? You are most certainly a liberal, although I dont recall if youve tried to window dress yourself as a "progressive".

At least youre right about this:

quote:

Their desire to seem "moderate" and "conciliatory" are a buncha crap

They have no desire to be moderate or conciliatory. Its Obamas way or no way...and that is why little gets done. He, Pelosi and Reid are the most inept leaders I have ever seen in proposing legislation that have public, much less bi-partisan support.

Obama and the Democrats need to do the opposite of what you say and then the Democrats and the Congress will do much better in any poll.

Obama just signed his 3rd major piece of legislation in 18 months. That`s a rate of 1 every 6 months.

How did bush do in that regard?

That`s on top of a slew a minor bills, like CHIP.

Bush did quite well in that regard, unfortunately. And when the "major bills" that he's signed are opposed by the majority of Americans, I wouldnt exactly call it an "accomplishment".
