ORIGINAL: hlen5 It's people distorting their faith and f-ing it up that causes wars. That and greed over territory, oil, arable land, what have you. Then you have to ask yourself what is the motivation for that distortion? Could it be the faith itself? Or maybe it's greed that is driving them. If I were going to get a large group of people to follow me into war, I can't think of a better motivator than to convince them that it's what their "god" wants. Exactly. So why do you go to such extremes to defend religion? I think there is more to life than us being so many chunks of animate meat. I feel that there has to be more to life than randomness and chance (and yes I believe in BOTH creationism and evolution). Believing in God is faith. Religion is how that faith is expressed. Distorting that faith is what societies do to mask their less than pure ambitions. So, Jesus - "Did you ever have any second thoughts about the whole "free will" thing"?
