This is what I mean when I say the law is not for everybody. Here we have a situation where the pope should be arrested and if I did what he did I would be arrested but instead of arresting him they are changing the law to protect him. I don't know about other people but it makes me angry. These lawyers and judges do whatever they want. It’s the same thing in Canada and in the United States.

There are 5 Catholic Supreme Court Justices in the US out of a total of 9. It would be in the best interest for England, if Ken Clarke left English laws alone. Reason: this could possibly allow Bush and Chaney to walk freely in England plus be even a larger embarrassment to the Catholic Church.

The UK government is said to have set in motion a law change that will prevent the Pope from being arrested when he visits the country in September.

Officials in Whitehall – the UK government’s administrative offices – are said to be worried over plans by the atheist authors Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens to have Pope Benedict arrested for crimes against humanity, because of his alleged cover-up of priestly assaults on children.

Its report adds: “Justice Secretary Ken Clarke proposed changes to the law today which would require the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions to any arrest warrant issued under universal jurisdiction.”

Basically changes to the law mean the power of prosecution moves away from people to government and just because of a pillock who wants for whatever reason to come to Britain at a massive cost we can ill afford. It galls that moneys will be made available to protect the old scrote, yet public spending is taking such a massive hit and with that the poorest feel it the most.

Britain would do well to notice the mood of the people and there choose wisely what should be happening, this pope's visit to many is unwelcome given the recent attitudes the vatican has taken towards events as they have occurred.

If public arrest is not possible, there will be something else to make Herr Ratzinger know he is persona non gratia to many.

Diplomatic immunity.
Dawkins and Hitchens can go on to other mischief.

I don't think he's entitled to diplomatic immunity. But if he is entitled to it why is the British government concerned? They don’t need to be taking any action if he does in fact have diplomatic immunity.

Pope Gelasius I was the first ever recorded pope to historically enjoy diplomatic immunity, as it is noted in his letter Duo sunt to emperor Anastasius.[1]
