The middle class has been shrinking since Reagan instituted trickle down economics.

Which I thought you were in favor of.

Brain -> RE: Shrinking middle class (7/25/2010 8:58:00 PM)

People need to vote for progressive politicians - Green Party or Democrats like Al Franken.

You have no fucking clue what I'm in favor of rule. What you do is group everyone who doesn't suck the liberal tit as a dyed in the wool neo-conservative.

I dislike both sides. Both are full of shit and neither gives a damn about you or me.

But count yourself as ostrich numero uno.

I absolutely agree that our future is in for a world of hurt. I definitely think Franken is not going to fix shit. As far as I'm concerned he's wasting Minnesota's time right now. How would he help middle class? He's too fuckin worried about helping Hmong refugees.

Termyn8or -> RE: Shrinking middle class (7/26/2010 2:22:23 AM)

In the fifties, you saved up for a year or two to buy a new car and then paid cash for it. In the sixties you might have had a car payment for a year or two on a car that would last twenty years. Now you have three years of car payments on a car that will last you five years.

The middle class was people who would save up the most money possible for a downstroke on a new house, to make their monthly payment smaller and easier to work into the budget. Now all people can think is how low of a downstroke they can get away with.

By now most of you are making payments on your TV, alarm clock and toaster as well, and most major appliances. You shouldn't need some scientific study to illustrate what is going on.

The middle class used to live right here, around me. They would sit outside on the porches on hot days and meet each other, become good neighbors and friends. This is very bad for government, and indeed my neighborhood has influenced the law here. They don't like that.

By the mid 1970s it got hard to find a new house that had anything that resembled a decent front porch. Then they totally fucked the schools up. All part of the plan.

This is news ?
HELLO !

And here I was actually trying to be nice and pose a polite question.

I keep forgetting how conservatives don't like to be called conservatives.

Not to worry, you have Michele Bachmann to make everything all better.

"People need to vote for progressive politicians - Green Party or Democrats like Al Franken"

I can no longer hold my tongue here. You need to get one thing through you thick fucking heads, all or most of you. Every fucking politician they offer up to us works for them. It is that simple. Repeat after me "Every politician they offer up to us works for them".

Now for every idiot who thinks the world works as taught in fifth grade civics class, just who is it offering up these politicians ? Follow the fucking money stupid. Geezus Christ. You gotta tell some people everything.

If you have at least a double digit IQ, wonder no more why I hold so much disdain for the petty, partisan bickering going on here.

I'll sidestep Termy's post, in which he claims that the government doesn't care to fix the problem, and mention that in my opinion government is not equipped to deal with the problem.

Henry Ford did a lot to fix the problem when he created a well-paid blue collar workforce.  A vibrant economy and the distribution of wealth will help a lot. The government has no place in generating wealth, and their idea of wealth distribution is to tweak with tax rates, not to address income at the point where it's earned.

I don't know what the answer is, but do not think that it's government.

But the question I posed earlier is did government cause the problem?

The income and wealth gap has been increasing since Reagan and further increased when his policies were revived by Bush.
