I am told that things are, however; going swimmingly in Iraq.

Jeffff -> RE: 2004 -2009 War in Afganistan-Grim (7/26/2010 11:34:54 AM)

In an asymmetrical kinda way?

Be nice!

HFC is back to playing World of Warcraft.

Or was it Mortal Kombat?

Jeffff -> RE: 2004 -2009 War in Afganistan-Grim (7/26/2010 11:39:51 AM)

I am not a particularly nice guy..........:)

(Duh!)

So let me ask, do you disagree with the reason we went in there in the first place?

Must have been Mortal Kombat because everyone knows that people who play World of Warcrack are extremely intelligent.[:)]

Rule, I don't disagree with the reason we went there, but even at the outset I said that our problem actually lies in Pakistan and thats what we should be doing something about.

I do not like the way we have prosecuted it.

Now ss may have different views all together, I just had to pipe up for myself.

southernsultry -> RE: 2004 -2009 War in Afganistan-Grim (7/26/2010 11:50:29 AM)

I guess my concern is...just a Russia lost there (at the height of its military power), and bankrupted itself as a nation .... what are we going to do differently? (Shrugs....)

I think it was the proper action to take.  The entire world (except Pakistan) supported it.  Bad things happened, but bad things always happen in war.  I'm not condoning everything the military did, just saying.

But then the military got distracted by Iraq and lost focus in Afghanistan, and things started to get unhinged.

Were there not camps in Afghanistan that trained Al-Quaeda terrorists?

Of course, we put them there. More of HappilyUnaware Reagans horrific meddling with the commies.

Debatable. The mission was accomplished maybe and we forgot to come home. Fuck it. Let's move on to Somalia....they got pirates and stuff.

Yes we did, but do you deny they became a problem that had to be dealt with?

Even though the success of that is questionable.

The USSR was at the height of military power because they poured all their resources into the military.

They were declining long before the Afghanistan invasion.
