The Fed government is implementing a fingerprinting program to be connected to ICE and Homeland Security to identify those who are illegal and have been arrested before. More lawsuirs to come no doubt.

quote:

DENVER – The federal government is rapidly expanding a program to identify illegal immigrants using fingerprints from arrests, drawing opposition from local authorities and advocates who argue the initiative amounts to an excessive dragnet

The program has gotten less attention than Arizona's new immigration law, but it may end up having a bigger impact because of its potential to round up and deport so many immigrants nationwide.

Tazzy, and who is it who thinks this is a "bad" thing?
Over the weekend YahooNews reported that there was an "exodus" of illegal aliens leaving Az. for parts unknown *before* Az's new law goes into effect on thursday.
Gee, Az's new law is working already and it hasn't even gone into effect yet! Now that's a "good" thing, unless you live in Calif! lol "Dig deeper" all you Calif. Taxpayers!

Hopefully more arrests and deportations will also come as a result of this.

If the federal government had been doing what they are there for, the Arizona law would not be necessary. GO ARIZONA.. ( and the 22 other states that are considering similar legislation )..

I don't see any basis for lawsuits.
I thought everyone arrested was checked for prior convictions, and that fingerprints were often part of that process.
They are claiming the above is okay, but also checking with ICE is... unconstitutional?
And this would be considered a sensible suit???

I never claimed the suits would be sensible. All i stated was what the article stated itself. Many organizations, especially those sympathetic to illegal workers, have already filed.

They're "sympathetic?" To like, that guy in the article from Guatemala with 12 differant aliases and two differant birth dates who killed two women and a three year old in a car accident?

I personally think this is a great program.   Also, I think that all the lawsuits are called Full Employment for Lawyers.   Isn't a lawyers job like that of a politician.   To stay employed?    lol  And if they can't stay employed any other way, they create something to be employed by.

The federal government keeping a massive database of fingerprints?
Who could object to that?

Maybe the Tea Party small-government types.
