DarkSteven -> Triumph of the weenies. (7/26/2010 4:59:46 PM)

One of the things that's pissed me off lately (there have been several) is how the captains of our world are increasingly ball-less. They run from confrontation like scared bunnies.

Here's an account of how Rod Blagojevich would hide from people he didn't want to talk with: http://chicagoist.com/2010/07/08/inherit_the_windbag_trapped_in_the.php

GW Bush would speak in Colorado Springs and Orem, Utah frequently because he knew he could find a friendly audience.  And he also tried to bar those with different views from attending his speeches.

Joseph Nacchio, indicted ex-CEO of Qwest, actually moved a shareholder meeting so he would not have to face criticism.

James Watkins, Secretary of Energy under GHW Bush, made a speech telling Rocky Flats workers that their jobs would be secure for 20 years.  Then he returned to Washington and signed the order that would shut it down.

Sarah Palin is refusing to take questions from the media.

Roger Moore, CEO of GM, evaded filmmaker Michael Moore for years and his evasion was a leitmotif of Roger and Me.

Why do we expect leadership from those who cannot handle opposition to their ideas?

Steven, good and perplexing question!
Could it have something to do with their upbringing do you think?
The type of people I know don't shy away from confrontation at all but, they're all "blue collar" type people.

Those at the top often avoid situations where the truth may unfold, as your OP clearly illustrates.

Sharron Angle running against Harry Reid tried really hard not to talk to mainstream media... here is a clip of her running away... although in this case I find it freaking hilarious!

Watch it and laugh your ass off, and remember she is running for senate as a teaparty person[;)]

Is your congressman going to be having a town hall meeting this summer?

(rhetorical question)

I will respond to it in detail but in the Polyamorous Lifestyle Forum; eh... just in case there are objections I can hide amongst the pervy lifestyle crowd.

I'm not familiar with this Sharon Angle so I've no idea if she makes a habit of leaving before the media has any chance to ask her questions.  Having run for political office before, I know that there are some occasions when you're just over-booked to make personal appearances.  Sometimes it just cannot be helped and you have to cut your time short at one place so that you can get to another event on time.

It seems pretty clear from the video that the gentleman speaking announced that Sharon was on a tight schedule and that he and two other individuals would address any questions.  Seems kinda bad form that the media completely ignored this announcement and chased after her anyway.   But if she always evades questions, I can see them taking drastic measures to try to do their jobs.

I've no idea why it would make any difference what she is running for Senate as, though.

She did, several times, it is entertaining. She wants to end social security, has made statements about fluoridation in the water being a government plot, etc... she has much to run from...

Here is another example of her running

I don't. Just like I don't expect a jackal to do anything other than be a jackal. But it still angers me too, Steven.

Treasure, if you heard her try to answer questions you would understand why she has chosen running away as the better option.

Brain -> RE: Triumph of the weenies. (7/26/2010 8:09:28 PM)

I don't expect leadership from these people - I expect them to be evasive and behave exactly as they are doing. The problem is how to make them accountable.

Julia, you should be *GLAD* that she's running against that crooked, doddering, old POS Harry Reid! Boy, that came out of nowhere! I figured you'd be glad to see a woman running against his wrinkled old corrupt ass.
We need "New Blood" in the Senate! They don't call it "The Old Boy's Club" for nothing!

So electing a crazy person is what passes as a good idea in your neighborhood... and yes, fluoride conspiracies are fucking crazy

popeye1250 -> RE: Triumph of the weenies. (7/26/2010 9:32:15 PM)

No, it just seems out of character for you to be supporting "the status quo."
Nothing against "senior citizens" but Senator Reid has been in public office for a loooong time now. That becomes a problem with "career" politicians, they don't recognise corruption after a certain amount of time.

Steven, I think Brain could be onto something there.
Personally, I don't consider anyone in public office to be "leaders", that's not what we're electing them for. We're electing them ( or hiring them) to "manage" for us!

Okay... the choice is crazy or "career politician" ... I choose career politician... just me, etc

pogo4pres -> RE: Triumph of the weenies. (7/26/2010 10:15:21 PM)

I do not blame the politicians, they are doing exactly that which politicians have ALWAYS done since the days of the Greek & Roman senates. Our founders expected a WELL INFORMED populace to keep them in check, you tell me how well informed we are as a nation when "American Idol" draws more votes than a presidential election.  How well informed are we when the nation votes as "most trusted news men" the guys that admit they do FAKE NEWS (Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert), nah  I don't blame the politicians I blame the sheeple.
