Status: offline 		This is an awesome story although I am very sorry that poor woman had to endure that.

"That was what Linda Smith (a pseudonym) was thinking after two thugs broke into her Oklahoma apartment. One was holding a weapon to her throat (she initially thought it was a knife but it turned out to be a screwdriver) and the other was pacing back and forth while holding her purse and demanding her money and valuables. She screamed, and was told if she screamed again, she'd be dead.

She was doing as police recommend in robberies – comply with a robber's demands. But her Lady Smith & Wesson .38 special, which she carries by permit, was hidden in her purse – and the purse was being held by one of the attackers.

Then the situation, suddenly, got much, much worse: One of the robbers demanded that she take off her clothes. "Come on, what are you waiting for," he told her as he started to yank on her sweatpants, trying to take them off.

Smith pleaded for her safety and distracted the attackers by telling them she would get her money, which was "in my purse." The robbers inexplicably allowed her to drop to her knees and crawl across the floor to her purse, which the second attacker had dropped.

She reached inside, and the first shot was clear of the muzzle and into the torso of one of the attackers before she even pulled the weapon clear of the purse. Four more shots followed shortly and, in the end, one of the attackers was dead and the second was hospitalized facing a murder rap for having participated in a felony in which someone died."

Status: offline 		Cool. She's still lucky. The robbers deserve a Darwin award. One of them has it for sure.

Even if you are cold enough to say "business is business", why the clothes off ? These scumbags, it would be better if she killed them both. And now the one asshole is charged with causing the death of his cohort.

I consider this to be very good news. Thanks.

I know I get all tingly and excited when someone shoots someone else.

It's even better when they die.

It might have just a little credibility if it linked to the actual new report (and for something like this there would surely be one) instead of links to buy gold.

The picture is a nice touch.  It is amazing how the doors were shattered like that but yet everything on the shelves never moved.  The picture being framed by a lending tree ad is priceless.

Status: offline 		Say it is valid...but... my opinion and no statistics to back it up...I would bet for every situation like this post at least three children are killed in accidents with home defense guns.

I am only going by local news stories in my area.

Sadly many of the stories like this that circle on the internet are fiction.  Sort of like the Mexican gang takeover of the ranches in Texas just  a couple of days ago.

You would think the idiots running the web site would have noted the actual news story instead of ads for gold.

Status: offline 		If you notice they were "alleged intruders" in the story.  So, does that mean the woman is going to jail for the rest of her life for committing murder?  Does she get off because it was self defense?

Do you think there might be more to this story?

Gun proponents and the NRA like to portray these incidents as an innocent victim being assaulted but they generally turn out to be drug-related or related to some other dispute.

But the NRA line is you need to have a gun because at any moment someone can kick down your door for no reason.

Undoubtedly the latter.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Not they I know what they were, but women are routinely presumed to be the victim in any judicial matter.

I imagine its easier to keep kids from home defence guns, than criminals from breaking into peoples homes. I'm glad she shot the trash. It save her life.

The blog writing has her crawling on the floor,  begging , and the trickery to get to the purse.  There is no mention of the boyfriend coming out and starting the fight that allowed her to get the gun.

Status: offline 		Glad to see a good outcome! Unfortunately, if they had raped and killed her, it would not have become "news"...just another blurp on her local t.v. station.... maybe two sentances in the paper. Another statistic.

Did the criminal deserve to die....Hell Yes! Did the other one deserve to be prosecuted (and sustain a critical injury)....Hell Yes!  They made the decision to put themselves in harms way while committing a crime. The  criminals of today know they have little to fear from the justice system that is more concerned about over crowding of jails and criminals rights and second guessing police officers and plea agreements and sentence reduction....and they know it. Society as a whole is better off if they have to consider that they may instead, face the concequences for their actions right away. Something along the lines of:  "I love my home and family and I am willing to kill for them....are you willing to die for them?"

kdsub - In the case of guns you generally only know when something fails, not when it doesn't. Part of this is because it is considered uncouth to advocate for guns/publish pro-gun stories. Part of it is because when a responsible gun owner saves a life(s) it's not for fame or glory and prefers to not be bothered.. oh hell.. I could go on for a while but it sickens me to have to point it out as it does for many anti- to read it (we all know it's not twue!)

Status: offline 		Shrugs,  sorry for nitpicking.   There several stories like that which have been fabricated and posted on blogs.  I don't take anything on a blog as gospel until it is confirmed by a real source. 

The have to admit the way the story was written on the blog it had that made up feel to it.

The facts once you got into the actual story if not for the boy friend getting involved things weren't going that well for for her.  That could have been one of those stories where the person had their own gun used on themselves.

Not debating the facts of the article either way but I'm curious; what is it about being "highly knowledgable about guns" that makes this not sit well with you?

Bleeding heart?

No, just realistic.

You consistently post these stories to tell us how important it is to have a gun to defend ourselves.

Yet just as consistently your stories are proven wrong.

I own guns but the only time I buy ammo is when I'm going to use them.

I'm not paranoid enough to believe that I need a loaded shotgun at my bedside for protection.
