fairdom23 -> secure cuffs? aparently my sub is houdini! (7/27/2010 2:32:08 PM)

well, i have a traditional set of leather padded cuffs for wrists and ankles. she can wiggle her way out of the wrist cuffs is she decides to misbehave. i am wondering if there is a better means of restraining her arms in a similar fashion? i know there are items that are a arm binder of sorts which bend the arm and lace it tight, i am just wondering if there is anything else.
traditional handcuffs get a bit... uncomfortable and i much prefer the look of leather.

either way, any first hand information you can share with me will be much appreciated
thanks

Have you considered purchasing a smaller size?

Other than that, you may want to consider a humbler.  It will still allow for the look of leather on her hands and feet, but she won't have nearly the ability to wiggle.

i was under the impression a humbler was a toy for males that held the balls in a stocks of sorts that keeps them in a kneeling position?

You can use the same premise.  Technically, this does make it a spreader bar.  These are very simple to make, while limiting her ability to wiggle, which along with the size of the cuffs, is what is allowing her to get free.  If she has small wrists and ankles, any cuff that is a 'medium' size is going to be a lot easier for her to get out of.  Did you purchase the cuffs prior to her trying them on to check the fit?  There doesn't need to be any more than two fingers of space with the cuff fastened at the last hole for buckle style cuffs.  (The golden rule of thumb, or fingers in this case.)  If you can slide two fingers in between her wrists and the cuffs when she is wearing them and you have gap left over, they are too big and you need to either put a notch where the fit is better or get another pair.

ETA - I probably shouldn't have used the term humbler in My earlier reply.  It probably led to some confusion.  My apologies for that.

Another idea is a wrap style cuff, which gives a custom fit. I'm wearing the (admittedly ugly, lol) prototypes for the ones I make in my avatar pic. I've made ones that are much prettier, but belong to other people [8D]
Unless her hands are small and her wrists large, a wrap cuff should work.

As has been said, you may want to consider a smaller size cuff, or a wrap style.  If she is really petite and has very slim wrists and ankles you may want to go with a narrower and more thinly padded cuff, like a 1.5" wide cuff body with a 1" buckle and strap so that it better hugs the thinnest part of the wrist/ankle.  Also, going with a lined v. padded or very thinly padded and lined cuff will provide less wiggle room through which to slide out.  I would recommend a lining of sueded pigskin, which tends to hold well to the skin, and no more that a 2mm layer of neoprene padding between the cuff body and the lining.

Two fingers is too much for some people. My girl can get out every time if I leave two fingers, she's more of a one finger girl.

Also as has been mentioned the padding will give her more room to wiggle out.

How about using rope? There are lots of ways to tie wrists, but TKB have a pretty quick and easy way.

Some people can collapse the hand and slide it out of anything. Including police cuffs. But if they can't bend the elbow or raise the shoulder, they can't pull the hand away from it. You just need to restrain more body parts.

The Prusik knot is a fast, easy and totally secure option; it isn't as visually attractive as intricate rope bondage knots, but is makes up for it with its simplicity and function. Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of wit."

I know the type.  LOL.

I judge on two fingers, as most of the time, My two fingers are going to be much smaller than the size of the (male) wrist.

I got custom cuffs made to the right size on Collarfactory since I'm fickle like that. I highly recommend getting customs made if you really love the look of leather cuffs, instead of just a generic "small" "medium" or "large" size. Definately worth it.

Otherwise I suggest rope, or maybe adding upper arm cuffs to the equasion.

i'm also one of those that says the padding makes a big difference.

i have slim wrists and hands, and padded cuffs have enough of a "give" that i can smush my hands through them, generally.

Custom made leather cuffs sized close to my wrist size are what works for me. If she's going to be with you for the long term, i say they're worth the investment. Yes, they're not quite as comfy, but that isn't always the point...
