You can use the same premise. Technically, this does make it a spreader bar. These are very simple to make, while limiting her ability to wiggle, which along with the size of the cuffs, is what is allowing her to get free. If she has small wrists and ankles, any cuff that is a 'medium' size is going to be a lot easier for her to get out of. Did you purchase the cuffs prior to her trying them on to check the fit? There doesn't need to be any more than two fingers of space with the cuff fastened at the last hole for buckle style cuffs. (The golden rule of thumb, or fingers in this case.) If you can slide two fingers in between her wrists and the cuffs when she is wearing them and you have gap left over, they are too big and you need to either put a notch where the fit is better or get another pair. ETA - I probably shouldn't have used the term humbler in My earlier reply. It probably led to some confusion. My apologies for that.
