It's unfortunate because it hurts his credibility claiming he's independent .

Where is old Popeye?  He always wants to turn everything into a discussion on illegal immigration.

Yet here and on the thread about how Obama had been going after the businesses that employ illegals for the last year he's strangely silent.

Name a president in the last 30 years that's done anything about illegal immigration! It's an issue that has been ignored time and time again!! This has been a growing problem! The Democratic and Republican Presidents (both) have been failing in this Department. This mess has been in the works for decades!! Wish people would stop and see that both Parties have been doing a piss poor job at addressing this issue in the past! Personally I'm feedup up to my eyeballs with both PARTIES at the moment!

Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George W. Bush, Barrack H. Obama.

Oh, you mean successfully? Well, if it was successfully, there wouldn't be a problem with it right now. Last I checked, the job of creating laws is USUALLY handled by CONGRESS. Tell me, when did Republicans deal with illegal immigration in the last decade?

If after the election, and Congress is still in control with the Democrats, immigration will get dealt with. If it isn't, then immigration will not get dealt with properly. Remeber that when your voting!

We have quite the uproar here from several posters about illegal immigrants.  Yet it was amazing the silence from them when it came out that the administration had been going after the businesses that employ illegals for the last year.  There was one in particular who I don't remember posting a single comment.  But he always claims he is an independent.

The answer to illegal immigration has always been to target those who hire them. Historically, people have always migrated to money or to the potential to make money. That is, something that will never change, and this issue will never be settled until the money sits behind a verifiable documentation wall.

The raid strategy always was, in my mind at least, done more for headlines than anything else. It never made sense to me to prosecute or persecute one group while turning a blind eye to the other half of the equation. So thumbs up to Obama. It's about time someone took a common sense approach. If there's anything I don't like about the approach it is to deport some and leave others.

Before someone goes rabid, I'm not saying that all illegals need to be deported. What I am saying is that they do need to be documented, taxed, and given a work visa if that's why they're here. I held a work visa in another country for 5 years. It was a pain in the ass, yes, but from the time it was issued until it finally expired, I could travel and work in that country as needed.

There are a lot of issues tied to illegal immigrants than just work. The US would go into convulsions without the cheap labor. Instead of slaves, we have these folks. I can't think of the word - remissions maybe - the money wired back home by them constitutes a sizable portion of the GNP of some countries. Many of those countries maintain corrupt systems of government. It seems we're draining off those who would fight to change it, in a way. Maybe not. Dunno, but I do think the fix is fairly simple. Fine and imprison those who hire them. Make getting a work visa something that can be done in a reasonable amount of time with the proper documentation. Allow the visa t expire every couple of years.

Of course, then we have anchor babies to consider. Ah well.

Not everybody coming across our borders are looking for work. Its those I am more concerned about. Dems are in control now, so why do we have to wait till after the next election.

Well gee Flcpl, I do have a *life* to lead off of the computer you know! Sorry I can't be at your *BECK* and call! (lolol!)
Of course Obama is deporting more illegals than that POS Bush! Not hard to do!
But, why is he out the other side of his mouth calling for "a pathway to citizenship" which everyone knows is "amnesty" for illegal aliens?
"Hey! I have an idea, anyone who can sneak into our country let's give them citizenship."
You know, with the elections fast approaching something tells me that we won't be hearing much about "amnesty" from Democratic candidates for the House and Senate. They know it just pisses off the American People!
If Obama came out and told the American People that he was going to get us out of Nafta, close the Mexican border, do away with anchor babies, strictly enforce our immigration laws, and jail employers who hire illegals his numbers would skyrocket overnight.
*Hell, I'd vote for him then!*
I don't know where this type of "thinking" in Washington comes from that enforcing our laws is,..."optional."

"We will never again ask for another amnesty and the borders will henceforth be secured."
-Ted Kennedy, 1986-

Brain, thankyou so kindly for worrying about my "credibility" while I was gone! And I don't "claim" to be an Independant I am one, I'm registered to vote as "Unenrolled."
But, I can see why that's so "confusing" to the left, *anyone* who doesn't think like them is considered to be a neocon.
That's why I don't understand why maybe 50% of the left likes Obama! He's more conservative than Bush ever was!
How can one like Obama and consider themselves to be on the "left?"
I guess the lefties just "make believe" they don't know about all the "Big Oil" money that Obama took, B.P. was his "biggest" contributor not the only Big Oil co. who he took money from.
How would lefties like to go to a cocktail party in the White House sometime and be surrounded by Tim Geithner and scores of other Wall St. insiders?
They won't see Michael Moore but they'll see plenty of $1,000 Hickey-Freeman suits.

Not meaning to hijack.. but for a matter of perspective for you Americans.  Your left AND right... I forget which is conservative and which is liberal.  BUT I know this.  By larger world standards, even your liberals, are still conservative by world standards.  In the end, there is little difference between american liberlas and conservatives.

And no, Canaduh is little better in this regard. I know it.  Americas hat is doomed to follow in your steps.

E3, most "liberals" are'nt too fond of the "lefties" who've infested their party either.
Can you imagine being a "conservative" and having to put up with the right-wing holy rollers who believe in , "the rapture"?
I guess in any party you're going to have the wackos to put up with.
It's funny, the lefties claiming to be "Democrats." One of them in here even came out and admitted that she was a "Communist."

Well golly gee FlCple, this just came up on YahooNews!
Obama is "transparent" allright, we can see right through him!
So, he wants to thwart the Congress and the American People now?

Just out of curiosity, who was the last Democrat you voted for with your Independent status?

By the way, what exactly is "Unenrolled"?

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Obama Has Deported More Immigrants Than Bush (7/30/2010 2:19:45 PM)

Yes, by fucking up the economy, Obama has caused hundreds of thousands if not millions to self deport.

Congressman Edward Markey of Massachusetts.
"Unenrolled" means you are not enrolled in any political party, i.e. not Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green etc.
You know, like being a "free agent."

Yes, but my hyperbole is based in fact, yours is based in ignorance.

Antonio García Conejo, an official from the Mexican state of Michoacán, is one of those pointing to a dramatic increase in Mexicans leaving the U.S. and returning home.

The return of Mexicans has already started, but many more arrivals are expected at the end of the year and in 2009.

Conejo was quoted by the Mexican newspaper El Universal. His state has been a major beneficiary of remittances, money sent home by expatriates living and working in the United States. The level of remittances to Mexico has been falling since last year, initially due to the slowing U.S. housing market.

In another story published Wednesday, El Universal said that 1,400 Mexicans are crossing the border back into Tamaulipas state from Texas every week — double the normal amount, according to a state legislator. The border city of Nuevo Laredo has decided to charter buses to help those people reach their home communities in states to the south to prevent an increase in local unemployment and vagrancy, the official said.

He fucked up the economy?

I seem to remember we were in a recession before he took office and now it appears we are no longer.

I'm trying to remember who that guy was before him.

I can't think of his name but he talked funny and didn't seem too bright.

Leading Economists Declare End to Recession - FOXBusiness.com
Oct 12, 2009

SAINT LOUIS--The recession, which began in December 2007, has ended but the nation still faces a long slow recovery, according to economists surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics.

More than 80% of respondents to the quarterly NABE survey said they believe an expansion has begun. The survey was  released Monday at the Association’s annual meeting here in St. Louis.

“The good news is that this deep and long recession appears to be over, and with improving credit markets, the U.S. economy can return to solid growth next year without worry about rising inflation,” according to Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Point Loma Nazarene University and NABE President-elect.
