Ten percent unemployment seems to indicate a shortage of jobs.
Per capita income $2,000 below the poverty level.
Both of the above would seem to validate my statement.

Ten percent unemployment is in line with the national average.

Your implication was it worse in what you term the rust-belt.

Per capita income of over $30k is not below the poverty level.

Keep in mind also that the data on income was a little old,  from 2003, the latest information I could find.

But even by 2010 standards a family of 6 would not be considered below the poverty level based on that income.

California continues to have the most illegal aliens. This is a sign of how much work there is to get in California, and because California is one of the largest economies in the world. Look at illegal immigration in your state as a sign that there is "more" motivation for them to come. I mean, what illegal wants to move to Idaho or Montana, they have nothing to offer... Georgia does. Where you have a strong economy, you will have people coming to exploit it.

Much more positive way to look at the problem. Illegal immigration is down overall, because there aren't opportunities for them

It might have as much as the borders thing: there's a lot of illegals in Florida as well, after all.

Ten percent is high no matter where one is.

Your implication was it worse in what you term the rust-belt.

Last I heard $32,000 was the cutoff.

Keep in mind also that the data on income was a little old,  from 2003, the latest information I could find.

*hugssss JAS* I understand what you're saying, my friend; I don't like offending others, but I hate "censoring" myself, too, but I do it sometimes.

And my God, anyone thinking you're a moron, is just a moron! I always enjoy your posts.
Awwwww shucks

I live in Ohio.  We're hurting.  Don't come unless you've got a firm job offer.

For anybody who's offended and can't "read" the sarcasm in the appropriate parts of my last post here, I'm sorry. I'm sorry you haven't been there with me and my uncle on the back porch making fun of the neighbor's parrot say "hello" to us while he spits his dip and I smoke a cigar. I'm sorry you haven't heard me complain that Cracker Barrel has dry biscuits and can't hear my great grandmother's "twang" in my voice. I'm sorry you can't hear me complain about those damned yankees who can't drive for shit or the construction on GA 80. I'm sorry you can't experience that joy. But, kindly, go fuck yourselves if you expect me to censor myself when talking about the culture I grew up in for your sensitivities.

Maybe it's the 54 yards of shell and 10 yards of river rock I laid out this weekend for a friend (because my grandfather taught me that if you can, you should when a friend asks for help). Maybe it's the Southern Comfort. Maybe it's having been told I should be a Cracker after my whip class today...outside in 97 degree heat. I just don't feel that people need to read racism, cultural hate, blah blah blah sensitivity or discrimination into every damned thing someone types on the fuckin' internet. Jesus H. Christ on a raft! Fuck!

bed boi

And you can count in South Carolina and about 20 other states so far as well.

What an authentic apology.  You're right, sarcasm can't always be read. That is what I asked did you really think that was all right to type on here.  A simple "I am from there and meant no offense" woulda been just fine. See, many who have family here move away and like to talk down about us down here, but then you should know that huh?  Sorry I can't read your mind.

I am glad to know that I don't have to worry about you seeing any classism, racism, homophobia or any other unintended bad vibe from anything I ever type on here.  If only everyone were as liberated as you are!

edited to remove asshole-ish-nish, although I ain't so sure I succeeded.  Just know it it seems asshole-ish, it is sarcasm, and I mean no offense.
