Brain -> Florida Church planning to burn Qurans on 9/11 (7/29/2010 7:47:33 PM)

This doesn't surprise me at all; the religious right is famous for book burning. But beware the Fatwas; the religious fanatics of Islam are just as uncompromising.

Florida Church planning to burn Qurans on 9/11

A Florida church is planning to burn a stack of Qurans on 11th September this year, in a tasteful effort to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Centre.

"Islam is of the devil"  YET ironicly.. Islam worships the same god, the same core ideals, hell it even recognizes Jesus (albeit as a great prophet).

Bigots can be found anywhere. And everywhere. And often, the tighter you cling to national identity, the tigher you cling to religion, and the more intolerant you are of others national identities and religion.  The concept of "state religion" is one of the most polarizing ways to motivate a population.  And it is a tool that if the government isnt wielding, crackpots like this, will.

Now to see an Islamic group burn bibles publicly? you KNOW somoene would face legal action!  American equality at its finest.

Ever notice that we can look back on old WWII era propaganda and see right through it? To them, it was the same thing as our current systems of propaganda.

I think this shit will die away. I think that this is just archaic thinking. No way in hell people will believe this forever. If they do, then they're usually widely outnumbered.

This is what my sister in Los Angeles said:

" lollllll they know nothing. Of course Muslims will be hurt by this..but most Muslims will be happy. Why? Because the Qur'an is so cherished that they do not want the filthy hands of nonbelievers to dirty the pages..they will prefer it to be burned than to be disgraced by being touched by people who eat pork, drink alcohol and act like this. So..........most Muslims will secretly be laughing about this! in fact Muslims burn materials that have the name of Allah on the m if they fear that somebody might disrespect them and dirty them! So...these idiots are just doing the work for the Muslims! HA!"

Somehow I doubt that will be the general Muslim view of it.

"Dove World Outreach Center, meet Westboro Baptist Church, WBC, meet DWOC".

What an exceedingly ugly "christian" baby they would make.

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: Florida Church planning to burn Qurans on 9/11 (7/30/2010 2:03:38 AM)

Lets call it like it is.

Our own Media is making this an issue. If they choose not to run with the story no one would even know this little fucking back water, hick ridden, racist laden, joke of people doing "Gods Work" would even exist. So Why are the Muslims even knowing this is going to happen? Cause we put it in TV. just like we put our Millitary choices on the same CNN that they watch, just like we shame our leaders on the same TV stations that they watch because why should we make it difficult for them?

I have nothing against Muslims... I have a LOT against Fanatics. Mormon Fanatics, Baptist Fanatics, Muslim Fanatics, Christian Fanatics, Any Religious Fanatics that are willing to go to the lengths of violence or insult to make a point.

Burn the Qur'an. Burn the Bible. Burn your Bra. Burn Crosses. Burn Billboards. Burn Cities. Burn Wood.

When it is done as a statement of hate, or anger, or disgust, or retribution it is a statment of violence.

I have Mixed feelings about the war, I have mixed feelings about politics, I know some people think I'm as Right as they come while others think I'm Left. The Truth of the matter is that falling into that idea is just another social trap. It is what makes us divided on all things. the idea that which side of the floor you are on matters when it comes to working together to make this country a better place. The Idea that Politics make a difference is as simple as thinking that buring the Qur'an will make a difference. Buring mein kampf didn't change the amount of Jewish deaths, Burning the Library of Antioch did not stop Pagan Beliefs or non christian beliefs from being spread.

The Point is that all these little homages to Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 do is help to breed more hate. Make more people angry about things they do not fully understand. After this so called "tasteful effort" is done, people will go home feeling that they did something good about 9/11 because they couldn't do anything then, and the next time someone sees a Qur'an (Mind you this Burning will most likely be the first time any one of these people has even seen one) who knows what they may do to the person holding it.

The Buring of a book damns the whole culture. A culture that not everyone who believe in is a bad person, not everyone who believe it hijacked a plane and flew it into the world towers. Yet we will set the idea that intolerance of a BOOK is what is important and thus make all Muslims an Enemy, rather than the Enemy of which many happen to be Muslim.

THERE IS A VERY BIG DIFFERENCE! Just Because my Enemy is Muslim... Does not mean that Muslims are my Enemy.

I think the term tasteful was used sarcastically. Fanaticism is bad, no matter who is doing it.

Is there anything else you would like the media to ignore?

Look I get the whole constitutional right and freedom or press thing I get that. It would seem our media at times loses it's purpose and instead goes on to help and create a problem rather than inform about one.

Some see this as a fine line I really don't. This is the kind of thing that gains momentum in it coverage. Coverage only makes it worse, not better.

But there are times our Media is Irresponible and makes a situation that was minor and realistically a non-issue and they made it what every person needed to know.

Do we all need to know what Paris Hilton did in the few hours she was in Jail? Why was that Breaking News? Do we need to know Lindsay Lohan showed her cunt to the world? Why was THAT breaking news?

Does the world need to know Clinton got a Blowjob? Or that the VP can't spell potato? Or where our Afganistan Bases were located on a Map? Sure they most likely already had the intel, but do we need to make sure they got it? Or that we shame our leaders for every mistake they make, R or D?

The question is just because you can make something public knowledge... does that mean you should?

Yes, unless you are advocating a closed society that restricts what its media can report.

That's a false dichotomy. The alternative isn't a "closed society". Our media don't give space to every single story that comes across their desks, they make decisions. And it is legitimate to question the basis for those decisions.

I think it's a GREAT idea! So much better than building a mosque near the collapsed Twin Towers.

Yes, I know, those Christians are sooooo intolerant!! Why, just the other day, I read about some crazy Baptist scalping -- and then BEHEADING -- a muslim in Wal-Mart, who had cut in front of her in line at the check out line!!!!

Those Baptists, they're something else!!

Personally, I just have the REALLY STRONG urge to yank those rags off their heads. A woman with something that ugly on her head, doesn't belong here. I'm entitled to want to live in the United States, and not Saudia Arabia. I want these freaky foreigners, GONE!

I agree. This is a deliberate provocation by the media. They are trying to get muslim nuts to do something stupid.

MMercurial -> RE: Florida Church planning to burn Qurans on 9/11 (7/30/2010 3:14:06 AM)

If they REALLY wanted to make muslims nuts, they'd just print cartoons of that pedophile they're so fond of....

I love all the Grey you ignore with this view. Black and White is only a Quarter of what there is the other three quarters are that grey area that makes things worse.

There are things I believe are responsible to report and things that I do NOT think are responsible. And it is those things that I believe you live for being reported cause you like to illustrate what a shit hole you think this country is. What is funny is that there have been all sides manning the helm of this country and it's still a shit hole the way you describe it. It wasn't magically a better place when Clinton was there, just to be come this horrible shit storm when Bush walked in.

The Irresponsibility of the Press causes many problems. But as was pointred out, it isn't about press anymore it's about Money. What sells Papers is keeping the people fighting amongst themselves, and yes it does make me sick how easily people seem to want to do it.

It was great, when reporters loved their country, and made decisions and judgments based upon that, rather than the scorn and haughtiness they have now, as they look down upon their fellow countrymen.

You're bringing up a completely separate issue.

Yes they do make decisions on what to report and it is fair to question them on it.

That's not the same as not allowing them those decisions.

WOAH who said anything about not allowing them... I said what they did was irresponsible.

They have the right.... I think they abuse that right.
