Yup, have to agree on this one here. I have been disenchanted with the lifestyle for the last several years or so because of it. Hence the reason I cannot be bothered to even attend local munches anymore, let alone anything national or international.

Maybe I need more caffeine, but this confused the hell out of Me. So, are we saying that those of us who enjoy blood play, including licking, tasting, or otherwise consuming the blood of the person that we are playing with isn't 'real' BDSM? I don't term Myself a vampire, but for those who chose that word to distinguish the difference between those who do consume the blood that they are playing with from those who don't, I personally don't see the issue. Unless, of course, in the OP's vast wisdom there's a better term that is easily understood in less than the seven letters that it takes to spell out "vampire" that can convey the meaning that the top is going to swallow the blood that comes from opening the bottom's skin during play. ETA - For the poll, I answered yes due to the fact that anybody who doesn't recognize blood play and the consuming of blood as being a part of BDSM hasn't taken a good look at the many ways that sadism and masochism can be explored.

All kidding aside the Vampire comment was simply something I just happen to notice....my question was simple do those of you who have been around awhile feel their is a decline in what Bdsm once was lets say 20 years ago before it went main stream. The munches are filled with ass chasers the clubs have by what I have seen become pissing matches with hairy chest beating the battle cries I am DOM hear me pose. I do not personally care what anyone is doing so long as it does not harm anyone else. When it effects me then I get upset...until then live and let live. I just do not personally see where swingers play into bdsm. Everyone is expected to bend to the majority so that puts getting out my poking stick again vampires at the bottom of the pole!

I don't have to define 'real'. There are people I look at and they don't do anything I'd want to do - some of them are too heavy handed or serious for me, some are too lightweight. Are they both not 'real', or only one side? It means that they are not a match for me, but seriously, unless I am in said bedroom or dungeon with you, what you do in your bedroom or dungeon is none of my business and doesn't need labels from me. I like calling people what they say that they want to be called, and being happy with that. But that is just my kink, and some people disagree with that. Got into a tiff over that on one of my lists that nearly got me kicked off, for answering a question much like this question, much like I've answered this one.

"Vampire" activities (the consuming of blood during play) isn't really connected to the swingers circle as far as I know, so I'm still confused by your connection. Cutting, needles, and those activities that involve blood have been a part of BDSM as long as I've been around. There are several of us on the boards who enjoy blood play. If you search the General Discussion board for any of the key words blood, cutting, or needles, you'll see that blood play has an active following here. I can't speak for twenty years ago. I'm also not going to compare this site to what I see away from the computer. I definitely see more edge players at My local dungeon that I do here. There are also fewer casual players from what I can tell. It's very hard for Me to make the comparison because I wasn't online when I got started in BDSM over a decade ago. As far as this site goes, there are still some of us that are on the more extreme end of things, though not as many as there used to be.
