I shop exclusively at farmers markets and my local trader joes so i'm probably not the typical person when it comes to what i put in my body, but i'm pretty sure that a lot of the health concerns that a person faces isn't because they are eating vitamin c deficient oranges rather the fact they are stuffing their pie holes with calorie laden fast food and sugary sweets loaded with all kinds of S$%^, just my opinion

we are what we eat-  garbage in - garbage out.

typical grocer- maybe 5% of the product- is what I consider edible.
that is not too high of a per centage.

yes i agree, but to use me as an example in high school i was a hefty 240 and a linemen on the football team my diet consisted of sugar loaded cereal, hamburger helper and other processed food that came in a can or a box. A year and a half later a dieted down to 155lbs and competed in my first bb show by pretty much sticking to the outer edges of my supermarket and actually reading the nutrition labels of foods. I'm hesitant to place the blame squarely on the food that we "choose" to eat because i believe its a cop out as americans i think we need to first learn about moderation and only than take a look at quality trying to do both is obviously failing in the country as referenced by the most recent obesity numbers.

My complaint is

1.  HFCS
2. white, refined, bleached, processed flour.

Obesity is much worse now then in the 80s.  With all the knowledge we have and abundance- it should be easy to eat and shop right.

i'm in complete agreement with you on those two points, and it is true that people know better than they did twenty years ago i just don't think a lot of people care and sadly it is accepted by society as a whole. I mean i live in new jersey which i believe was the 42nd least obese state and our number was still 23% if i remember correctly i can't imagine what states like alabama look like. Case in point a few days ago i was eating some chicken, london broil, and veggies at work when an older worker commented to me on how to much protein is bad for my kidneys meanwhile this man was easily pushing 300lbs and made a wheezing sound whenever he breathed. "I felt like saying oh i'm sorry i can't hear you over the sound of my abs rippling, you freakin sloth". This same guy downs a full liter of regular soda everyday that i see him.

I stopped drinking soda 5 years ago.

I still drink coffee,  and lots of water.   I should have done it sooner.

I must say pahunkboy, you do come up with some doozies and you are right about the kitchen sink..well, sort of.

All of my careful washing and cleaning didn't stop me from picking up a nasty parasite called Entamoeba histolytica. Travelers to endemic areas are at risk for this infection; however I was in Houston. I developed Amebiasis and nearly died as it took the doctors several months to diagnose me.

The infectious diseases folks decided I picked up this parasite from fruits and/or vegetables shipped from certain countries. 

And so....I now wash all fresh produce and fruits in dawn and a smidgen of bleach as well as washing my hands fastidiously. And yes, all the soap pump bottles on the sinks in my house have a little bleach mixed in with the hand-soap.
Paranoia can be a good thing![:D]

I am not hyper alarmed by aspartame.    Tho- limiting the amount of it- I do for me.

Cancer is more common today because people live longer. It's real simple when the average lifespan was 38 instead of 72 people simply didn't live long enough to get cancers.

Type I Diabetes used to be fatal so people with it just dropped dead in childhood. It's an auto-immune illness and has nothing to do with diet. Type 2 is associated with obesity and age. Type 2 is more common than in centuries past but a lof of that like cancer is simply because people live long enough to acquire it.

Every time you post one of these videos I watch a few minutes and the guy is always lying or exagerating/misrepresenting the facts.

the cancer part of your statement i'll agree with, as for the type 2 diabetes part while living longer may have some impact lets not kid ourselves that shoveling as much food as humanly possible (which many people in this country do) plays a significant role in impacting this upswing.

Were you raised in Norway?  You should've seen how tall the Norwegian exchange students in my engineering school were, dayum.  And one was blond, one was brown haired.

as an aside, MSG and aspartame are harmless, but if you have migraines they may trigger one.  They both give me headaches.
