I'm curious about how others in the lifestyle have met. Whether it's your partner, Dom, sub, romantic interest, play partners, friends, whatever.
Did you meet online? At a play party? At a dungeon? A munch? Through a dating service?
And... have you noticed any difference in how relationships (regardless of how casual or deep) pan out depending on how you've met?

I've had a few different experiences personally.
I met one person online. He lives about 4 miles away from me. He saw my ad, messaged me, I messaged back, and when we realized how close we lived to one another, we went ahead and traded phone numbers and met within a few days at our local restaurant.
I met another person through a friend of a friend.
I met one at my local university.
I've met a few at play parties.
And probably a hundred or so through munches.

For me personally, I've noticed that relationships tend to work better (for me), if a mutual friend introduces me to someone (whether that's at a munch or wherever). It's kind of like your friends know the "real you" and they know the "real" other person, and in their head they're thinking "Hey, those people might just click!"
I haven't had much luck with this online thing. It's done nothing for getting my feet rubbed or my hair brushed. Both of which I can usually find at least someone at a munch to do.

I met my ex owner online through AOL and, through him, met his Boston sub and her husband who is now my Boston partner.

I met my boyfriend directly here on collarme. After a handful of emails, and two phone calls, we met for lunch two weeks after our first contact.

I met my local partner through the Black Rose 04 forums. We didn't have time to meet at BR 04, but we met 3 weeks later at a Firefly meetup.

I had been posting information to a message board in the Fiction/Anne Rice section of Prodigy (we weren't allowed to talk about real-world BDSM so we pretended we were talking about things in the book so the censors wouldn't catch on) when on February 19, 1992, I got a email which read only "I think we share some interests in common."  Libby and I exchanged a few emails and then a few phone calls and on February 29 she drove from Boston to New York City to meet and play.

I have known Chris since I was 14; we started dating when I was 18. We actually met at the police station [:)] I had been picked up for malicious vandalism, he was there talking to his father, he bumbed into me by accident and when he went to grab me to stop from falling, he accidently grabbed my butt. I punched him [:D][:D]
As for play partners, we meet them from munches, parties, clubs, etc.

Mmm...I was on the discussion boards of another site...He liked what I wrote, so he went to check my profile, saw that I was geographically close *like 6 miles*. Then he IMed me. Two weeks later, we met, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I met my partner at Alt, actually, in their regional chat room. We imed a couple of times, had dinner'n'a movie about a week after our initial contact, and have been together almost two years now.
 
I've met the vast majority of my real life kinky friends through him, at play parties and things. Most of our socialising is done at munches and parties. My online friends I've met on Livejournal, mostly, only a couple of whom I've met subsequently met in real life (that's more due to geography than anything else).
 
The most successful kink-related friendships I've had were, besides my partner, all real life contact first.
 
I guess I prefer initial contact online, and then having most of the friendship played out in real life, if it's possible. I wouldn't trade any of my friends for any other format, though, no matter how I stay in touch with them.

I met my current romantic and kinky interest when I went to Japan to do some business. My friend's wife is Japanese and she organised a friend of a friend to show me around and translate while I was there. Within 30 minutes of meeting the chemistry had started to mix. I had no idea she was into kink but we quickly discovered our kinks complimented each others.

The only problem is that are incomes are firmly rooted where we live and we are both determined on our own careers so we don't get together as much as we would like but we have fun when we get together and make up for it.

Met Master on a "vanilla" site. His response to my post touched my Soul. It's only been 2 months - O/our first meeting was on Valentine's Day ~~~smile~~~, and O/our Relationship is growing and deepening. i am very thankful![:)]

I met Master at an online writer's community.  We both signed up for a writing challenge to write a group novel, and my first words to Him consisted of me calling Him a girl--which we've kept as a momento.

Seven months later we had a moonlit collaring ceremony and started our life 24/7.  Another seven months after that we made it legal and got hitched.  There were a lot of wonderful moments inbetween, including a very public surprise proposal on the writer's community forums.

In more playful moments, I just tell people I bought Him on Ebay.

i met my Lady through a site called Myspace, i had a Domme at the time and things were getting rough between us. i looked to my Lady for guidance. Soon after my relationship ended i began getting closer to my Lady.
W/we met in February for a perty in NYC that was happening. i was a nervous wreck LOL. Not only because it was my first time meeting Her face to face. But, also because it my first "Real" experience.
Now i am happy serving my Lady, i lay all my trust in Her.

I met the Dom I am seeing here on CM. I actually signed up on the site because I found out the Dom i had been seeing before him was on this site still looking for subs, So i kinda joined to piss off the original Dom. As I was looking around for people in my area I saw The Dom I am seeing nows pic. (he was my type, I was totally physically attracted to him) But I didn't have the guts to do anything but add him to my favorites. 3 Days later he asked if I planned on introducing myself. So I did, we spoke thru here for a few days, then on yahoo. The fact he didn't ask for my number or mention meeting me made me start to wonder if he was playing games, yet he really wasn't but the fact that I wanted him so badly at this point and havn't even so much as exchanged phone numbers was driving me bonkers. Finally I asked him if he would like my phone number and he said yes. I gave it to him and about 2 hours later I got a text message....and this was really cute for the first day but 4 days into the text messages and him not calling made me wonder what the hell i found here lol. Now my best friend starts teasing me telling me maybe hes a foreigner (dont get me wrong I have no problems with that but now im wondering does he have an accent so bad I wont be able to understand him)  or that he had a voice that didnt match his look (hes 6'3 and bald and big man) my best friend is telling me maybe he has this really girly voice. All this is playing on my head now and i ask him in a text if hes a foreigner............he said and if i was? I tell him it's fine but will i be able to understand him, lol and this goes on an hour or so then he finally calls me. He wasn't a foreigner, didnt sound like a girl just liked making me bust! Then within a week or so we met at a mall in between the two of us, and sat in the food court for 4 hours talking and since I have already rambled this far I will continue. Before we met we had talked about how a kiss seals the deal and it doesn't matter how attracted I am to someone if they can't kiss it won't happen!! So about 3 hours into our talking, he is staring at me  and I am getting goosebumps cause he had the "look" And he says well now that we have spent so many hours together you better kiss me to make sure we arent wasting each others time............I just stared at him like your kidding right? Lol and kinda ignored it till he reached across the table and kissed me, their were fireworks and all...... so he pulled back and said ok you arent wasting my time and we just laughed. So there you have it, probably more then most want to know but damn there is nothing like the beginning and having those butterflies. It's going on just about 2 months now and i am just going with the flow.

I met my slave alandra at a birthday bash of someone I knew years ago....

I came across my slave kyra in a online chat room, if I am not mistaken it was her very first visit to that online chat.... it was many months later that we met in the flesh... about year ago now ... *G* what a fantastic year it has been.

denika who is a play partner was at a play party I was at and that is where we met.

i met Daddy here on Collarme.  After a few emails and instant messaging we met in person.....have been together ever since.  What a wonderful, wonderful addition to my life.
