I find it absolutely fucking astonishing that grown adults can be duped by some random asshole misrepresenting who they are online for whatever reason.

I imagine that those who do must get conned or taken advantage of in real life fairly regularly.

DarkSteven -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 5:57:54 AM)

I can generally spot a fake easily.  I'm assuming that they don't troll the message forums, so here are some of the telltale signs:

A pic of a very attractive woman, posed.  Especially if it's revealing.
Mentioning her name in her profile, especially containing the phrase "by name".
Equating WIITWD with kinky sex.
Having a weight half what it should be, due to confusing lbs and kg.
Horrible spelling and grammar.  Frequently weird blathering - one had a list of all dishes she could cook.
Mention of getting trained at some slave training institute.  One claimed to have two years of training at one!
Stories of a previous Master killed in some way.  I suspect that's to justify being stranded in a foreign country and needing relo money.
Weird, sappy language about finding someone who will love her always.
Lack of hard limits.
Nonexistent or very loose age limits for her match.
A profile with a single pic, no profile words.

Anyone who contacts me directly who I do not know from the message boards.

That said, the real people I know would never send me a topless pic or their full legal name until they know me VERY well.  In other words, that will successfully screen out everyone except the cam show fleecers who will make up a name.

And - Dragon?  You may want to assume that people who have several years more experience on collarme than you have, could possibly have some valid suggestions and simmer down.

littlewonder -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 6:57:22 AM)

I make it simple. I just meet them in person. If they show up, great. If they don't, I find sometihng else to do with my time.

I don' sit here and worry about if someone is "real" online.

KatyLied -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:02:55 AM)

Even meeting someone in real time does not necessarily mean they are on the up and up.  It takes month to know someone and to get a picture of what is going on in his/her life.  Sometimes you simply have to start out with best intentions and take a walk faith that they are who they say they are (I sound like Dennis Green), sometimes it's all good, sometimes not so much.

DomImus -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:04:28 AM)

If someone's intent is to hurt you and they want to do it badly enough, they will likely succeed.
If someone's intent is to deceive you and they want to do it badly enough, they will likely succeed.

People should learn that they are never truly entirely in control of their own destinies.

This. Even on vanilla sites this happens. I have a friend who was newly divorced and she met this guy who said he was surgeon. Everything seemed great for a few months and then she found out his entire life was a very well constructed lie.

This woman has an MBA and usually makes good decisions but in this case, yeesh, she was pretty messed up for a while after.

It astonishes me the lengths that someone will go to to fabricate a life.

I met a guy on another dating site several years ago and dated him for several months. In the end I found out he was married, he also had a kid, lived in a different part of town that he said and the cherry on top was he also had an entirely different name than the one he told me. Granted initially I didnt ask to see his drivers license or something. I got conned and duped by a major random asshole misrepresenting himself for sure. Do I get taken advantage of in real life fairly regularly? I am not sure I do. I totally felt like a dumb jerk for being duped by this guy and most likely it would not happen again.

KatyLied -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:24:13 AM)

Not everyone is honest.  Sometimes people want things bad enough to ignore red flags.  Or they convince themselves that what they are told is the truth, even while they wonder about it. Sometimes they ask direct questions and are lied to.  It does not mean they are idiots.  It means there are liars in the world.  shrug.  This is why I think it is always better to err on the side of caution when getting to know someone.

pahunkboy -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:26:15 AM)

My advice is to jump up and down.

if on the 3rd jump you are able to cum- then the profile is real.   if not- then it is typical internet noise. yehaa.

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:28:45 AM)

I would point out that in every photo of my self for the last 5 years has the exact same necklace, so if its of my head or from the neck down or up, It has the same necklace. Its a one of a kind piece (or so ive been told) So It would just take to noticing that in every photo.

I ask them to meet for coffee.

* Do you know of any sources on the internet that help you by providing technical help or info or other stuff to find out if you are talking to a real person, not a fake?
Nope, just plain old common sense.

* What if you found out (for sure) that your aquaintance is obviously sailing under a false flag? Do you report the profile?
If the profile violates TOS, I report it.

Would I report the profile.. Hell Yes. If they are lieing to me, they have or will lie to others. But.. some say I am a bitch.

Now.. to the real point of the post.. after talking through emails for a bit, I make send me a pic.. like a topless pic with my name on their chest is red, black, blue lipstick. Something like that. Where they cant just download a pic to send. OR, make them use a cam. I ask for legal names (which there are several websites that have search engines for background checks), and ask for a phone number to call them, and a 'friend' that I can talk to about them. Most sub/slaves have either another sub/slave that they confide in or a Mentor that they are working with. If someone isnt willing to give you any of this information... they are a fake. Either they are not ever really intending on joining you or they are not being honest with you on some level.

Hope this helps.
Phoenix

If someone asked me for a naked pic before I had even met them, I would consider that a huge red flag and move on.

How about being ordered to buy blue or black lipstick first so you could take a naked pic for someone?

Dragon, you've mentioned your technique.  How about sharing your success rate with it?

thishereboi -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 7:49:03 AM)

She made some suggestions and others gave their opinions. That is what happens on these boards. In my case, I was merely pointing out that asking for pics from someone you haven't met, isn't always the best way to find out if they are real. There are some people, myself included, that see that as a red flag. And since you admit you have been burned before, you should understand what that means. That said, rushing to the forums to insult all the posters never makes you look good. Something to think about...

Well, if that person were you, I might consider it. But for anyone else that would be a hard limit.

Now my questions to YOU:
* Do you have any technical things or verification methods or tricks to find out if your new online aquaintance is real?
* Do you know of any sources on the internet that help you by providing technical help or info or other stuff to find out if you are talking to a real person, not a fake?
* What if you found out (for sure) that your aquaintance is obviously sailing under a false flag? Do you report the profile?

I don't have any technical verification methods because, when it comes to electronics, I'm an idiot and freely admit to it. I wish I did know how to do all that stuff. But, when I was looking, some of the ways I use to try and spot a fake are:

If a person is from someplace like Ghana and can't tell the difference between Dominant and submissive.
If someone is like 5'10" and 99 pounds or something like that, they must be fake. Anyone that tall and that skinny at the same time would have to be practically dead.
Truly terrible English and punctuation, like they don't know the language at all, when they're supposed to be from here.
When they say they're stranded in some other country. Umm, yeah. Because they live there. I'm certainly not going to bring them here.
Someone who has some work from home get-rich-quick scheme in their letter.
A sub/slave from God-knows-where who has virtually no limits and is willing to move to practically the ends of the earth. This one doesn't really affect me, as I'm not looking for subs, but I still notice them.
Someone who immediately falls in love with me and they're all sappy and sickening sweet from the get-go when they know nothing about me yet.
Someone who wants naked pictures of me at the very beginning. They're nothing but HNG wankers.
If they want my phone# but won't give me theirs. They must be hiding something. Like maybe a Mrs?

If I found out that a profile was that of an actual fake, I would indeed report it. And I have many times. I am real, but I would not give out my phone# right away. I need to get to know someone first before I give out really identifying information, because I don't want just anyone knowing my personal info. I might give them my yahoo once in awhile, cause it doesn't have my name on it, and we could use Yahoo voice for talking. Then I could always block them if things got weird.

KatyLied -> RE: How do YOU find out your online aquaintance is not real (8/1/2010 8:29:35 AM)

I do not report profiles.  I do not feel like it is my responsibility to filter profiles for everyone.  Plus, how do I really know they are fake?

1. If you do not like this site, please feel free to ask for a refund

2. WTF are they supposed to do about the scammers? Maybe they should start charging, so that every Nigerian with an ISP can't join for free to harass you? I think this would be a GREAT idea... are you willing to be the first to pony up a subscription fee so they can police this site better? I thought not.
