Considering that the Republicans and conservative right are against raising taxes on the wealthy, this pretty much has it covered.

Sanity -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 12:48:49 PM)

Blame it on the right all you want but if the Dems want to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire theres nothing but their own fear stopping them. In other words they have to be willing to accept the responsibility for the consequences and I don't believe they're willing to do that.

Just a thought. Has anyone considered trimming the vastly bloated budget?

jlf1961 -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 1:50:50 PM)

Actually, the democrats are talking about leaving the tax cuts in place for the lower and middle class incomes, and letting the upper income brackets go up.

Louve00 -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 1:56:44 PM)

Ending the 2 wars that the last regime started would be one good start towards helping the deficit.  Well, the one in Iraq is over, just needs wrapping up.  Now we need to get out of Afghanistan and regroup our strategy on the terrorists.  Any guesses on how much of the deficit has gone to the wars?

Trimming what you refer to as the "bloated budget" in this economy is a little problematic,no?
But let us say that this would/could be accomplished without undue pains....wouldn't allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire further close the gap ?....why is it necessary to come at this from one direction only?

jlf1961 -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 2:10:19 PM)

Republicans and conservatives LIKE the rich not paying taxes

Sanity -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 3:35:43 PM)

Are you claiming that the rich don't pay any taxes? And who are you to claim you speak for all Republicans and Conservatives. Thats a lot like presuming that Rush Limbaugh speaks for all Liberals and Democrats.

Why is it that the biggest tax cuts go to those in the highest income bracket?

Sanity -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 3:48:12 PM)

Could be because the wealthy pay the lions share of  taxes while the lower income brackets pay little or none, even get cash back that they didn't pay in.

E3 -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/1/2010 3:53:40 PM)

X percent for the rich is X percent for the poor.  It does not matter if that same percentage for the poor ends up a couple hundred dollars vurses the couple thousand or more that a rich pays, it is the same percentage.  For the poor to pay X tax, and the rich to pay Half of X tax JUST becuase the end value they pay is higher, is unfair to the taxpayers with lower income.

IF a tax cut affects one bracket of individuals, it should affect all.  Or none.  Besides.  The rich are more often tied to big business, and thus have more loopholes to exploit as it is.  The lower income tax payers are the "wage slaves" and lacking businesses to hide their earnings behind.

Yeah, it could be, but absent any proof, my suspicion is that it is not the case.  (Bell curve and sheer numbers seem to indicate the contrapositive)

Do we? I just love it when people who have no fucking clue try and tell me what I think. It tells me right away how their mind works and what their thoughts are worth.

You do realize there are a lot of rich democrats out there, right?

DarkSteven -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/2/2010 4:58:58 AM)

The idea of deficit spending being a good thing was birthed by Reagan and used to puncture the economy by Bush.  The Dems are afraid to roll back the tax cuts, and the GOP is unable to shake their ideological adherence to it.

The ruined economy was due to Bush's practices (and the confluence of some ugly happenings) but Obama has not done anything to fix it, short of band-aid spending bills.

Hijack here:  Obama's been president for almost two years.  How come his name still shows up as a misspelled word when I type it in?  Is this a cm issue or a Firefox one?

Hilarious. Put everyone but the wealthy into penury and then complain that the wealthy are being asked to pay the lions share of taxes.

Probably your browser. When did you last update it?

Sanity -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/2/2010 7:17:18 AM)

Odd that you're so confused that you can't tell the difference between someone complaining and someone simply answering a question.

Excellent. Then we're agreed that it is fair and right to tax the wealthy such that they pay the lions share of taxation and those tax cuts they benefit from may be rolled back without further delay.

Sanity -> RE: Pretty Much Says it All (8/2/2010 11:53:05 AM)

Thats a fairly immature statement on your part. Of course I never wrote anything of the sort.

I and when you're prepared to debate what people actually do write as opposed to what you pretend that they write let me know, and I may begin to take you more seriously.

Why are you so eager for the loaded to receive huge tax cuts in the first case? I doubt you're in the top 1%, somehow.
The people who do have all of your country's money being all for that one, I can understand. I don't see what the working class (or more likely unemployable these days) or bourgeousie neocon gets out of championing this, though. Why are you guys demanding special rights for people who wouldn't give you the steam off their piss?
