8) the comedians: there is a certain contingent that tries to turn every thread into amateur comedy showcase. (see the korean women thread on the ask a master forum)
1. Interesting, this is so true for me too, not sure why. Maybe because Im not sure exactly of its provenance?
2. Not idiocy because people add new synonyms for commonly used terms in our language all the time. It feels like it's some secret lexicon though....
3. Yes I agree..your dominance or submission is taken so seriously as to extend to your capitalization habits? What are you trying to prove?
4. the moderation is better now (stricter) than it was last year, this makes people be nicer.
5. sounds like you're bitter and whining. How do you know this?
6. Never had any experience with that.
7. Having answers from all sides lends to a whole perspective on a topic. Funny that 2 lines ago you complained about suppression and guidelines, but here you are advocating it. Selective censorship then?
8. Comedy is funny. It makes people laugh, making them feel happy, and lets off steam, which is important on heated, impersonal forums like these. Shakespeare used comedy relief to allow his audience to regroup from the intense drama of his plays, so they wouldnt get overwhelmed and they could come back refreshed to fully experience the story properly. People lacking a sense of humor are some of the dullest people ever, and generally cool people dont want to be around them. Why no to comedy showcase on a forum like this? Maybe you're taking every breathing moment on this website too seriously?
Edit: another thing about comedy, I realized, is that it offers another approach to the topic at hand. The ancient Greeks viewed comedy as the perspective of the gods, a perspective from above, of being able to transcend things- as opposed to tragedy, which was the mortal realm and what poor humans had to suffer through. Dismiss the power of humor, and you're dismissing your ability to rise above things or take lightly what should be taken lightly.
