I haven't the slightest clue where to post this, so I figured I'd go for the random category. On several occasions, I've ventured out on my own to Paddles, NYC's only BDSM club that I can find (without a huge amount of research) and on each occasion I've gotten - shall we say - discouraged by the overly aggressive/desperate men who seem to be the regulars. It's flattering for the most part and not really that big of a deal, except that I can't really enjoy myself because I'm either hiding from some persistent sociopath or pushed into a corner by a smooth-talking Dom who won't let me get a word of protest in edgewise. So what I'm wondering is this: are any of you message board regulars New Yorkers? Do you have any experience with the munches (aka, are they any different than Paddles, and do you enjoy the people you've met) and/or any other sort of activities that NYC has to offer? I'm not really looking to play with strangers so much as to meet (in person) other people into the lifestyle, and I feel like knowing someone (even a little) from here would help in the feeling less overwhelmed when I go places. So how about it? And for those of you who don't live in NYC, you should really move here. Then we could start our own munch [:D]

I went to Paddles with Shore and there were creepy guys invading my space when I was with him. I can't imagine going there alone. It's one of the reasons we didn't like the place.

Yeah, I actually even got taken aside by the owner and told that if I was in the least bit uncomfortable, I should just look at him and nod. I did that once and he escorted a guy away from me, but there are an awful lot of creepy men there and he couldn't possibly handle all of them. I haven't been back in a year. Do you and Shore ever go to NYC munches?

But a good tip is that if you hang out ion the goth scene here, just about everyone is into bdsm. There are plenty of fetish shows on certain nights and you'll at the very least find out where to go for the real bdsm stuff. Now that's the stuff that freaks the hell out of me!! (not the bdsm stuff itself) (

I've been to Paddles twice. Both times, same result...creepiness...from both the men and women. It was like desperation station; the place where all the social misfits gather in hopes of getting even someone to talk to them at the very least. Yeah, don't think I'll ever go back.

Been to Paddles a few times. Once went with my g/f and her friend and had a great time.No creeps bothered us.There were at least 6 other couples there and some regulars I guess, but no one mentionable,except for the older fat guy who offered endless foot massages to women. Our friend hooked up with a nice guy for some play in the long thin corridor spot.I think they exchanged numbers and she cooed the whole way home. Also have been to the NYC munch which I think is affiliated with Paddles.The moderator had to be a stand up comic, he was so funny and disarming.He kept it fresh and on purpose while enforcing the flirt rule a couple times.His g/f also made people feel welcome and at ease.There were about 5 couples,10 or so single guys and at least 5 single ladies,all ages and backgrounds. Had a great time. I`ve also met single women who`ve gone alone to Paddles without getting molested.But that shit happens no doubt,unfortunately.A good owner would want to know about it and would do what it took to stop bothersome creeps. There were really nice play parties at Dressing For Pleasure in Montclair, for members.Nicely done by two of the nicest people you would want to meet. The had muchies and drinks.I brought wine for the table when I went.It was a bit of a pot-luck munch. The playroom was comfortable and everyone I meet was friendly. They got closed by Montclair`s "liberals" after being there for many many years.

I have been to Paddles and it sucked. You just get hit on by everything in pants. I have also found that the two munches I have ever attended in my life in the NJ/NYC area, were primarily Dommes/sub men. I used to go to TES events back in the day, but found that they degenerated into typical group politics, so stopped going. For a city the size of Manhattan and nearby NJ, the choices are dismal to just meet people into this.

Sigh. So the conclusion to all this is just what I thought: there are no great munches/clubs in or around NYC. Suppose I should start my own or something...

A lot of my friends go to Trenton NJ or to Philly. I agree with the comment about the lack of choices in the tri-state. There is(was) a decent place in Long Island, that I heard couldn`t get anyone to go. <sighs>

Paddles is scary .. many years ago there was a place called the Vault which was REALLY scary
