Now that one's a fantasy.

If that was a reply to the >55 GOP turnout this November, you cant be serious. This will be by far the largest turnout for a midterm election ever for that group.

No, to the second part, of course.

But alas, over 55 voters do not vote as a block.

Youre right...but it will be overwhelmingly GOP...on the order of 55-60% in contested races.

Based on what?

southernsultry -> RE: Good news, in time for the midterms (8/3/2010 7:40:37 AM)

Wow...so, President Obama had 1.7 years to fix 8 years of economic disaster? (( I call that "fuzzy math" lol).

mnottertail -> RE: Good news, in time for the midterms (8/3/2010 7:44:45 AM)

But the real good news in time for the midterms is we are getting the fuck out of Iraq.

Jeffff -> RE: Good news, in time for the midterms (8/3/2010 7:46:16 AM)

It is so much easier to toss around opinions rather than facts.

Kinda explains why your "Cry Havoc" thread died an ignominious death.

Is there some symbolism here that I'm missing? It looks like an embellishment of "bama" with the 0 at the end too.

Nonsense. He will do the same thing Clinton had to do...move toward the center. The difference is that so much of Obama's support will be alienated by a move to the center that it still cant save him for 2012.

Yeah that makes sense, because the people who would be disturbed by a move from left to center would...vote for someone even further right?

mnottertail -> RE: Good news, in time for the midterms (8/3/2010 7:54:15 AM)

Pendulum swinging, which is rather accurate in our political environs.

Whether I agree with the gist of the original posit or not.

The 'over 55' crowd will also be voting in huge numbers in November, and they won't be voting for democrats.

You realize that "over 55" group now includes all the hippie baby boomers from the 60's, while a large chunk of the traditionalist WWII vet types have now moved on to a better place...the only place they would be able to vote is Chicago and even then only if they vote Dem.

I think that a moderate Republican might stand a good chance of getting elected in the current political climate. Someone like McCain 10 years ago.

Unfortunately for the Republicans their party is drowning in a mess of Tea Partiers, Birthers, religious extremists, conspiracy theorists, potential domestic terrorists, racists, fascists, and lord knows what else. I'm not too impressed with Obama right now, but it could be so much worse.

Its your math thats fuzzy. It was 7 1/2 years of great economic results and 6 months of economic disaster under Democrat leadership in Congress. Meanwhile Obama has had 1.7 years of policies that have deepened and prolonged the recession.

You skipped three recessions there, Skippy. He bought his way out of the first two with monetary policy (and Republican Congresses). By the third, he had nowhere else to go, and turning to fiscal policy highlighted the structural mess his tax cuts, long term military commitments and profligate spending had created. He never solved it--just handed it off.

Doesn't necessarily mean anything.  Obama will have an opponent, and his popularity vs the opponent means more than his popularity by itself.

Quoted for TRUTH.

Let's say it's Obama versus Palin.  GACK!  I'll vote anti-Palin in a heartbeat.  Might even have to start the Denver Chapter of Republicans for Obama.

Priests can't marry: of course they need something to wank over when they're not raping children.

Yes, the 2000 McCain, without the Conservatives sniping that he was more liberal than Hilary, would have won in 2008, I think.

But those days are gone.

I didnt skip any recessions..he managed his way out of the first Clinton recession and 9/11 quite well. The third was not a consequence of monetary or fiscal policy, but failed social policies and regulations. "Just handed it off"? I'd say McCain was the one to "hand it off", since GWB had nothing to say in the matter.

We obviously will never know, but had Romney been his VP pick and then the second Clinton recession hit, the independent vote might very well not have trusted Obama's inexperience and we wouldnt be in the toilet we are in. They now see the error in their ways, and hopefully it wont take decades to reverse Obama's economy killing policies.

Ive never claimed to be independent. The last Dem I could possibly have considered voting for is Kennedy, and he would fit better in todays GOP then todays Dem party.

Not at all. They are hacked off at having 500 million cut from medicare to fund Obama care.

Let me get this straight- the seniors are angry at the Medicare cuts of Obamacare, so they are going to vote for the party that wants to cut and privatize Medicare entirely?
