U.S. drawdown in Iraq proceeding as planned, Obama says quote: Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- The Obama administration's planned drawdown of U.S. troops from Iraq is proceeding "as promised" and should lead to an end of America's combat mission there by the end of August, President Barack Obama said Monday. Plans to reduce the number of U.S. troops in Iraq to 50,000 by the end of this month are on schedule, Obama told the national convention of Disabled American Veterans. At that point, the U.S. mission will shift to the training and support of Iraqi security forces. A full withdrawal of American troops from Iraq is scheduled to occur by the end of next year. The war in Iraq "is nearing an end," he said. "As a candidate for president, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. And that is exactly what we are doing." While the U.S. military commitment in Iraq is now nearing a conclusion, the president warned, there is still danger there for U.S. troops on the ground. This ought to make some people happy, I think it is about time.

O come on Willbe...someone lied about WMDs and al Qaeda in Iraq. Mayne Bush was lied to and really didn't know (hard to believe) but somewhere down the line somebody made some shit up and W bought it hook line and sinker...so either he knowingly lied or he was dumb enough to buy somebody's bullshit on the topic...not that noble a defense....he was too dumb.

Not again with this pablum we are to swallow ? First, almost every intelligence agency around the world was ignored by ours when warned about 9/11 and Obama's opponents when it suits them do not rely upon those other intelligence agencies when it comes to our security needs in any case. Also, the contact between Saddom and Al-Quaida was well known throughout the world's intelligence community. The huge difference is that while Bush & Co. said it meant collaboration and clearly implied it an additional threat...the rest of the world and even our own intelligence regime knew that Saddom saw Al-Quada as a threat, told them so and kicked them out...never to be seen again. Until that is when ? After we intentionally created a political vacuum and they walked back in and raised hell and with whom ? Those that were thrown in Abu Garib who understood going in...hated our guts coming out. We even created a name for some...FRE's or former regime 'elements.' That was the first GWB strategy to create war, prolong war and the profits a great example of which is not only Blackwater and Haliburton but a pal of George's gets to set up an oil 'company' off shore and make $millions just to broker American oil to Iraq. Then when the politics at home didn't play well for re-election and to keep congress in-line..., we sent in a new general whose surge was nothing more than going from not paying them $100/mo to actually paying them $300/mo. What a great deal ? That's a great return on our capitalist's investment in this war. As for the 9/11 commission ? I am supposed to believe anything in it when they failed completely to investigate a $100,000 payment prior to 9/11 from a Pakistani Intel officer to an alleged conspirator in Florida ? AND...would have us believe that on 9/11, two 60 ton airliners...vaporized [sic] on contact ?

Well, you guys can argue about it all til the cows come home...soldiers in this case. We all know which wars started under which regime and which wars are ending under which regime. All the inbetween chatter is just that.....inbetween chatter. **editted to add...Personally I'm glad the war in Iraq is ending. It'll free up some money for that budget ya'll are also arguing over. Next to work on is Afghanistan.
