I'm not sure why the Tea Party folks need to solicit the horror stories - though they abound. The solution and the correct way to handle the problem is simple. People here illegally, are criminals, period. Every one of them. None excepted. So as criminals, they should be arrested and deported. Let their own country take care of them.Period. End of story. If they want to stay, exit the country and then APPLY to return legally. Takes too much time? Well...too bad. My grandparents did it the right way. So should they. Then after you throw them out - change the portion of the 14th Amendment that says being born here makes you a citizen. It was written at a time when the country needed to populate what was then to be a potentially huge state. Only the following nations, as far as I have bene able to research, follow the unmodified principle of "jus soli" (...right of the soil...).. Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, USA, Columbia, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Romania, Uraguay. Note the lack of European or far-eastern nations, near eastern nations, or middle eastern nations, ...only one nation of eastern Europe...and the few nations of the Americas. Quoting the web site http://askville.amazon.com/United-States-countries-offer-citizenship-birth-aka-birthright/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=7563352 ; "In a number of countries, the automatic application of jus soli has been modified to impose some additional requirements for children of foreign parents, such as the parent being a permanent resident or having lived in the country for a period of time. Jus soli has been modified in the following countries: German nationality law was changed on 1 January 2000 to introduce a modified concept of jus soli. Prior to that date, German nationality law was based entirely on jus sanguinis. Modification of jus soli has been criticized as contributing to the growing global problem of statelessness, along with the creation of social underclasses and various legal challenges in countries like Australia. For example, in Australia, children must wait ten years before they are considered equal in the eyes of the law to their peers. On the other hand, in places like the United States, jus soli is credited with the nation’s ability to integrate various nationalities and with much less social strife and difficulties than other countries. Although jus soli was formally stated in the Fourteenth Amendment, judicial authorities recognize that the philosophy was integral at the conception of the country’s constitution. As for horror stories about crimes by illegals...they abound..... http://www.immigrationshumancost.org/text/crimevictims.html http://www.usillegalaliens.com/impacts_of_illegal_immigration_crime_summary.html http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=research_illegalsandcrime http://www.jwpcivitasinstitute.org/media/publication-archive/perspective/illegal-immigration-drugs-gangs-and-crime http://www.illegalaliens.us/crime.htm http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/10/the_forgotten_issue_illegal_im.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12920268 Here is an unbiased (the above obviously right-leaning) view of the problem.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States I have ZERO issue with immigration that is done LEGALLY. No other nation allows what is allowed here with regard to illegals. Even some of the nations cited above as following the "jus soli" principle, besides the US, have a growing vocal opposition to illegal immigration. Mexico deports more illegals than the US does and has a far more harsh policy for dealing with illegals ....(...sure...send them here...)...unrest is growing in Pakistan over the issue too... The EU has also created a tough new Immigration Law...that has managed to piss off the Castro-clone running Venezuela. It allows the detention of illegal immigrants for up to 18 months before deportation. I''m guessing that is to make the "experience" of entering the EU illegally so distasteful...that you won't want to try it again...(..are you listening, Mr. Obama?) Export ALL of the illegals...then set up a streamlined, practical, shorter-duration policy to allow select people back into the US. .....through proper application for citizenship. That takes ALL the wind out of the sails to the right......and forces those on the left to live within the real world. Illegal...is illegal. Immigration law should be enforced.
