(No I would not actually do this. But it's really fucking tempting.)

So... I know there have to be some people who practice magic on this forum. And I need some info about the three-fold law, the law that any spell that wishes for bad things comes back three times as bad on the person who cast it.

Just how bad I suffer if I say... wanted to make my boss stub his toe? Like every day? Cause him to lose his beer? Maybe find holes in his favorite shirt?

The man is driving me insane (he seriously will make "jokes" about the job being like a communist country and shout work slogans at me). What happens if I say... wished for him to step on a tack?

I'm open to suggestions.

Honestly? The threefold law is BULLSHIT in a package. Golden Dawn horsehockey, when they were making modern magical practice out of whole cloth.

We live in a Newtonian universe, even those of us who practice the occult/magic/witchcraft. Whatever you put out there is attached to you forever. Folks who randomly throw curses, act negatively, and are general douchecanoes TEND to attract ickiness. But not always. Karma is way bigger than that.

Want him to step on a tack? Put a tack in his path! Will that act of pointless vindictiveness REALLY make you feel better? What kind of person will it make you if it does?

Not a fake question, it's the kind of thing we learn, when we start learning that stuff... and why the older the practicioner the less they do in terms of influencing things!

Many see the three fold law as simply a guideline on how to conduct oneself - a code of conduct or ethics in the same manner as the 10 commandments.

Whether or not it has validity in this reality is always up for speculation. As humans, all we can do is live life in a manner which we believe is right and good as we define how it applies to ourself.

Exactly, the threefold law is a stick to make folks behave. If you lack ethics, no law will give them to you.

Wherever you go, there you are, right? So do the right thing.

Seek new employment.

Wishing Harm, even in small doses, makes you a cruel person.

Somtimes bad people go their entire lives never getting what they deserve. Accept it. Control your surroundings by seeking employment where you don't deal with assholes. It may be a long search.

We all try, Bear! Which is the point---that QSM illustrated---being POINTLESSLY vindictive only lowers you. Some need rules to scare them into that kind of behavior, and descriptions of what to do and not do. Think of thos gazillion page slave contracts!!

Really though, in my life I have observed that genuine evil is immune to harm. It's the dabblers that get nailed.

Here's what you do. You wish for your boss, all he deserves, and let the universe 'bless' him.

You don't need to do a spell to make him stub his toe. A mirror spell designed to return his negativity to him is all you need. It's safe for you, because you're not sending out negativity. If his negativity bounces off your spell and smacks him in the face, it's not your fault. He's the one who put that energy out into the universe. You're just putting up a shield to protect yourself.

There are also justice spells.
But those tend to result in everyone getting "what's coming to them" in fast forward, so only try if you're pretty secure with your current karma.

Ok, I am totally pleased as friggin' punch at the thoughtful responses I am reading here - not that my approval is required, and not that I knew that more than one of you would have known the say the phrase "Threefold Law" out loud, but hey, you'z my tribe and I just wanted to say Way To Go.
Aqua, they've pretty much nailed it slap on the head, special kudos to Hibbie and WD.

well this is interesting.  i found a site on magic spells and sent off for a course on it, just to see how it all happened.  ive never done spells on purpose, i send out affirmations over positive things and they seem to work.

i told my D about the spell thing last night and he asked me not to do it.  his reasoning being that magic can come back at you big time.

dont do it aqua

why dont you try the opposite - send him love - no i mean it, (i can hear you throwing up, but bare with me here )

if you send him positivity and a calming soothing affirmation he might chill out.  its worth a try and you wont be doing anything negative.  negative energy isnt something you should mess with.

Karma is a bitch. I believe that the energy you put forth is the energy you get back. Ever notice how unhappy people draw other unhappy people to them? Or how we gravitate to people who are positive?
Three-fold law is nice, but as stated above, " If you lack ethics, no law will give them to you."
Though sometimes it is nice in the playground of my mind to sometimes imagine the possibilities if magic only worked the way it did on Charmed lol

If all this is true, then casting a spell on someone in hopes of making them fall in love with you ought to fill your doorstep with flower deliveries and your mailbox with love letters, should it not?

Bolded for truth, LadyH!! People always say, "oh watch, they will get theirs"..and I say, uh NO, not really, if they are really evil assholes, nothing bad happens to them. I have seen it myself over and over again.

TELL it, Sexyred! I have a family legacy of genetic evil, and I can assure you from close observation that evil dies transcendent!

Windchymes, "love" spells sent to specific people are #1 on the Unethical list... but general ones... shoot! As long as your definition of LOVE is really really sound. That's always the thing, with spellcraft, it works from the SUBCONSCIOUS, so you end up with what you REALLY want, not what you think you do.

Not a game for amateurs, magic.

I have yet to see anything along this line actually happen.

Apparently, you have to be really careful how you word love spells. As it turns out, "I want someone to be crazy about me" is a poor choice of wording, and conjurs up a very persistent stalker that likes to stand outside your window and stare up at you while you do dishes.

umm..or so I'm told
